Now I don’t know why eating any meal in the field tastes so much better, but take my word for it… it does. It could be something as simple as a sandwich and you would swear that it came from the finest deli around. Tonight’s supper wasn’t any extravagant, but it did have something hot in it and also some fresh watermelon, and Daryl said that it was good.
The reason that I had to bring supper out in the field was because Daryl actually was able to get into the remaining acres and get the beans planted. YEA! He worked up the other ground that flooded the corn, and wants to replant these spots, but at least for now he got this area done.
And he didn’t even get stuck! He took the log chain with him and we were on call just in case. I’m sure glad that he didn’t need us to pull him out. When he got home, we took the rest of the beans out of the planter, and for now we just put them in sacks in the barn. We’ll want to store them better for the next years crop, and we’ll probably put them in plastic totes again so the mice don’t get into them for the winter. It’s too expensive to have any of it go to waste. After I dropped supper off for Daryl, I went through town to see some of the displays that they’ve put up for the Irish Fest this weekend. But as I’m driving into town, I noticed that the roads were really wet. At first I thought that it must have rained or something in town, but then I realized that they had the fire truck out on Main Street cleaning up the street after the flood that we had the last couple of weeks ago and to also to make it nice for the festivities this weekend.
When I got home, I gave the watermelon rind that I cut up for Daryl in the filed to the chickens. Our chickens will eat just about anything, and they especially love watermelon.
How we ended up the night was a bonfire. One of our neighbors stopped in when he saw us outside, and we sure had a nice visit. It seems like with the weather nice and warm and the farmers getting into the fields, it just makes everyone feel so much better.
