What good weather we had today. It didn’t rain, and it really didn’t even LOOK like it was going to rain. I mean, go figure! So it was a perfect day to finish the porch to seal it up. I needed to go to town to get some old newspapers copied off for the Irish Fest that’s happening in our town next weekend, and the only place that I could find that could do it was an hour away. But my luck is that they can copy these over sized newspapers and that they are open on Sunday. I was really happy how the copies turned out and especially on the 1875 newspaper that I have from our town. This one is a little bit more fragile than the others, and what they did was scan each side of the paper twice and then digitally piece them together on the computer. Now I know that sometimes we might think that we’ve got too much technology in the world, but today.. Shazam! I was really happy that it turned out, and even happier that it cost less than half of what I expected to pay! When I got home from getting these copies, Daryl was just putting the second coat of sealant on the porch and it really looks nice. The only trouble that he was having was with the peacocks. Now it wasn’t because Sam was screaming at him in the yard like he did with William yesterday, but the trouble was with Lucky wanting to get on the porch and look into our living room by the French Doors. Lucky always thinks he kind of owns the porch and also he also thinks that he can also use it to just go to the bathroom anytime he wants. Yea, you can just about imagine how well THAT went over after the second day of this project. But later on in the day, William finally caught Lucky and I think it scared the peacock so much that we didn’t see him for the rest of the day by the house.
Since we were having such nice weather, Daryl went over to the other farm to see how the fields were looking. The temperature was around 80 degrees today, and it really helped to start to dry up the ground. Now don’t get me wrong, they are no way near being dry, but at least it’s a start. He was able to work up most of the one field that he still needs to plant and was pretty happy about that. So after supper we talked about if we should go out and pick rock. We for sure didn’t want to get stuck out in the field, but these past four weeks with Kyle home, our plan is to have him help to get the fields all picked. And how many did we get done? Zero. Well, Daryl went over to get the planter out, and then we were going to see. After he got the planter out of the shed, he said he thought that now he knew for sure that it’s been too long since he used it last last because there were two bird nests built on top of the guide arm! Seriously, not cool. The guys knocked them off before I could get a picture of them, but I snapped a couple after they were off. The boys helped get the planter ready for hopefully tomorrow afternoon and the tractor and planter is just sitting in the yard waiting to go. I’m thinking that our farm equipment isn’t the only one that is just sitting in a farm yard tonight waiting to get into the field tomorrow. I’m sure that most of all the farmers were planning the same thing. We ended up picking rock later tonight and even though we didn’t get all the rock cleaned up in this field, at least we got hopefully most of them out. There were areas that we couldn’t drive in because it was too wet, but with the ground worked up and good weather forecast for tomorrow, it should dry pretty good. I laughed though at the end of the day because I saw on Facebook people were enjoying the nice weather at the river, or camping, some were on motorcycle rides, or having picnics. But after I looked at the picture I took of how our family spent Father’s Day, it was just as nice. Not necessarily the rock picking stuff, but just spending the afternoon helping to get the fields ready for the crops. I guess the old farmers saying is true, ‘If the sun is shining, you better make hay’. But this year, ‘If the sun is shining, you better be picking rock!’
