Working on the porch Saturday

The fields were too wet for Daryl to get out in them, and with the next couple of weekends busy, we knew that we’d better get some things checked off our list. Now a lot of the things on our list involves field work, but it looks like we need some nicer weather before we could do anything like that. So today’s project was to work on the front porch. Every year you really want to seal it at least once, and you should probably seal it almost twice. But last year after graduation, we just kind of stopped doing any projects and never got it sealed. The first step is to strip the old sealer off. So we wanted to see if our power washer would work, and no luck on that. After a quick call to the favorite hardware store to see if we could rent their power washer and nozzles, we were in luck! No one was using them this weekend, and off Daryl and William went to get it. In the mean time, Kyle kept working on cleaning the cement until they came back.DSCN6744It took most of the afternoon to get the cement stripped, and despite the weather that was trying to really rain on everyone, the porch was ready to get a new sealant on it. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will shine and it’ll be a good day to apply the sealer. DSCN6752 The only one who wasn’t liking the whole process was Sam the Peacock. He just stood across the yard on the calf shed and screamed and screamed! OK, so the power washer is a little loud, but Wow he really hated it.

Keeping a good watch on just what was making all the noise. And I think it was Sam!

While the guys were working on the porch, William picked up the weed eater from town on Friday that was getting fixed,  and I wanted to try it out. I’m not sure, but I think there was something wrong with the carburetor or something… but whatever the problem was, it didn’t stay running very good in the past. But now? One pull and she’s purring. So when the guys were washing the porch in the light rain that we were having, I was having a pretty good time with the weed eater cleaning up around the buildings. At the end of the day, we felt that we had gotten pretty much what we wanted to get accomplished.
