How fast time goes

It’s just amazing how fast time goes isn’t it? I read an article one time that said as you age, there is a chemical change in your brain that changes how you judge time. I’m not sure if it was a scientific study or what, but I believe them. Because when you were young, some of the days just drug on and on. You would think that the week would never get over so you would have the weekend. And in the summer … those days would never end. But now as I’m getting older it seems like I can hardly keep up with what day it is. We have a daily calendar in the bathroom, and in my morning routine when I’m brushing my teeth, I pull off the day’s before date and see what the cartoon for the day ahead of me was. It seems like as soon as I got one day pulled off, I’m reaching for the next day!

Well this weekend wasn’t any different. It’s already Sunday night and another week is in front of us. But we did get a bunch of stuff done though. Daryl was able to get all the plowing done and was really happy how the fields look. He put the plow away for the season, but he has to oil it yet. Now he needs to get out the chisel plow for the other fields. The weather has been nice, so hopefully he’ll get out in the fields sometime this week.

I had to see if I could find some steel toed shoes for work. They’re required on the shop floor and man did I have a hard time finding something. For awhile I even was going to try on men’s shoes because I was told you just had to go down two sizes and they should work. Never really had to prove this theory which was a good thing.  But finally after going to 4 stores, at the 5th store I found some that will work. And guess what kind of a store it was? It was a Farm Store!  Yup, when someone tells you that a farm store has just about anything, you just might want to take their word for it.

Then we had a chance on Sunday afternoon to head down to Ames to visit William and go to a concert that he was singing at. It’s always fun to go to any concert, and this one was also great! I don’t know if I was ‘in the zone’ when they were singing this one song, but I swear it sounded like it was being played on some kind of instrument other than kids singing. The harmony was really cool and smooth.

We got home just in time for a visit from some kids Trick or Treating. If you have only Trick or Treated in towns, let me just say that you might have missed out on what the farm kids know. When you Trick or Treat in the country, you usually get either a prepared sack of candy or you get about as many handfuls that you can take out of the candy bowl before your parents stop you. The real trick to this was when your Halloween pail was about half full, you would dump it out in the car in another bag so it didn’t look like you had so much candy. By the end of the night, you were sitting on enough candy to last you weeks and weeks!

Now that it’s night time I’m thinking more about our son, Kyle who lives on the East Coast. There is a hurricane brewing and it is called the ‘Storm of the Century’. Some news casts are saying that it might be worse than anything before that has hit the United States in history. They are evacuating some of the states that are on the coast, and with Kyle living in New York he should be safe. They are predicting power outages for days, so I’m hoping Kyle will be able to keep his power and let us know how everything is going. I’ve worried about a lot of things with his travels before, and now I can add hurricanes to my list. I guess we’ll just see how fast these two days go by…..
