I decided today that I needed to check out just how the garden is doing. I’ve only just given it the attention that was absolutely necessary these past few weeks, and today I wanted to get a closer look at it. My tomatoes are just starting to ripen, and my peppers are taking off like crazy. You know when you plant something and throw away the packet but think to yourself that you’ll remember what it was what you planted? Well I thought that way in the spring, but now I’m not so sure. I’m talking about the peppers that I planted. Now I know that I didn’t intentionally plant purple peppers and another pepper that is off white – but they are sure doing well. Today I tasted one of the off white kind and they’re not hot like a jalapeno and don’t have a green pepper taste either. I think tomorrow I’m going to do a little research on them to see just what I did plant.
I decided that I wasn’t going to can the tomatoes that I picked today and just skinned and quartered them. I put them in the freezer until I can get a larger batch and then make something out of them. Next week I’m planning on organizing where I put all our canned food (spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, …..) and see just what I should do with this years tomatoes. I asked Daryl to take a picture tonight of a couple of my tomato plants because they are just huge!
After I got the tomatoes put away, I worked on cleaning and cutting up green peppers. I usually just freeze most of these and then use them in the winter months. I think we’ll probably have too many of them this year because Daryl doesn’t really like green peppers in his food. Then just when I thought that everything was settling down for the day – the dogs started barking in the barn. Now I figured that they must have found another little kitty that fell out of the hay loft. Last week I had to put up a kitty that fell down, so I figured that he fell down again. But when I got to the barn, I found that it was two new little kitties that must have gotten lost.
It took sometime to catch them because they were pretty worked up, but eventually I did, and up into the hay loft they went. The dogs could hear them running around and just stood under the one shoot looking up like they were going to see them or something. Not sure, but they looked pretty silly. I’m hoping that everyone stays where they should be for the night though. Finally supper time and looking at the size of the kettle that I used, I’m guessing that I’m going to have to learn how to ‘downsize’. Check out the pot of chili that I made for just Daryl and I.
oh, i know the feeling about figuring out how to downsize on the food portions! thank goodness for freezer bags, that’s all i have to say! haha.
could those light skinned peppers be gypsy peppers?
No idea on the gypsy peppers, but I’ll have to check into it to see. Thanks for the idea!
