Good news and Bad News

The Farmers Coop called today and said that we don’t have aphids in our soybean fields. That is the good news. They continued to say that we do have spider mites, this was the bad news. So they sprayed our bean fields today to try to help control them. I was kind of surprised to hear that we did have them because Daryl was out walking in the fields yesterday and didn’t say that he saw anything. I asked him how they check for these mites and he said that you usually have a white piece of paper and shake the leaves on it. Then you check to see if you can see anything on your paper. If we didn’t treat them now,  it sounds like they’ll just eventually kill your crop. Hopefully we’ll get rain this week and we’ll be able to get some soybeans out of all of this. Keep your fingers crossed!

I ended up today freezing the rest of the noodle soup that my Mom brought over. Oh man! I was getting so full during the day that I could hardly walk! It was so good, but I knew that I had to stop, so I froze a bunch of individual packages and put them in the freezer. I used my vacuum sealer which I absolutely love. I’ve worn out my first one and I got another one as a gift a couple of years ago. I can’t believe that people don’t use them if they have them. I use mine probably 3 to 5 times a week as an average. And when the garden is coming in, I use it probably everyday.

Then William, Kyle, and myself worked this afternoon on getting all their entry level college stuff done. William will be in his first year at Iowa State and Kyle will be going to Graduate school in New York State. It seems that both schools are needing a lot of paperwork and I’ll be happy when we get it all squared away. I know that both boys will be happy also.

Well I better go, I’ve got a couple of candy orders that are due tomorrow and since it’s almost 10:00, I better get them done.
