This morning started out exactly how I would expect it to. I just let out the dogs from the barn and I was feeding the cattle corn. Then I heard it. It was an extremely loud scream! I just stopped what I was doing to listen to it. I’ve never heard that type of a scream before, and once I got in my head on what it could be – I noticed that the dogs were no where around. Then I realized they had a peacock down somewhere on the farm. Well I threw the feed shovel and started to yell at the dogs. I realized that they were back by the grove, so off I started to run. Now I learned two things this morning about myself , #1- I am not a very good runner, #2 – I need to pick my shorts that I’m wearing for the day just a little bit more carefully. As I’m running through the yard for some reason my shorts were falling down. Now this might not have been such a big deal, but we live so close to the road I was just praying that no one was going to drive by at that moment because I’m running through the yard yelling at the dogs as loud as I can (who weren’t anywhere around) and trying to hold up my shorts at the same time. Finally Reno came out from the grove looking extremely guilty. Then as I got closer to the horrible screaming that the peacock was doing, out came Apollo. I went to see how bad the damage was and the peacock could walk around. I followed him to the machine shed, and so did the dogs. I stopped, and so did the dogs, and then I gave them one of those really MEAN Mom looks and for some reason they kept their distance. I was wondering how I was going to catch this peacock, but eventually I was able to calm him down and did catch him. He’s not able to fly because he’s hurt, so that’s why it made it easier to catch him by myself. Once in awhile when I was by the peacock, Apollo would come a little closer to the shed to see what was going on, but one look from me and he walked backwards out of the area. They knew they were in trouble. So now I put the peacock into the one side of the chicken coop by himself. He’s never been locked up before that I can remember, but he’s doing pretty good. I guess we’ll see what the next couple of days bring.
