Happy Anniversary Carl and Teresa

There was quite a few different ideas that I had for the title of this blog, but I think I picked the best one. Why Happy Anniversary Carl and Teresa?

The first reason: This one is an obvious one to the Kuehner clan. It was Carl and Teresa’s wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 24th. They were married in St. Lucas in 1941, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in Lawler. Last year when the Kuehner’s were trying to figure out a time so that everyone could get together, the only month and week that was going to work for most everyone was the weekend of June 23 and 24. Now, no one picked this date for the wedding anniversary – but it was just meant to be. So that was the beginning of the 1st Kuehner Farm Reunion.

The second reason: This one has to deal with being a parent. I know that I just love it when both the boys are home and sitting around the kitchen table. So for Carl and Teresa, wouldn’t it be the perfect anniversary gift to have your kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren spend the weekend just hanging out on the farm? If they were here, they would have seen kids on the trampoline, kids playing just about every lawn game there is, others sitting on the porch, and a whole lot of people just visiting. This is the perfect compliment to any parent, and I could just see Daryl’s dad with a small smirk on his face having a great time, and Daryl’s mom wouldn’t be too far behind with a great big smile and laughing. I think we can also thank them for helping us with the weather. In the morning it was so overcast and the radar showed not only a huge band of showers coming our way – but a lot of red (bad weather) included. But because the weather was so cloudy, it kept the heat down and we never did get any rain.

The trampoline was in high demand this weekend

The last reason: I think the last reason is because it is who their children have become. They have all carried the importance of raising a family and keeping traditions alive. I’ve seen it in all their faces this past weekend and it is nice. Now I don’t think that too many of them are praying the rosary around the kitchen table liked they did when they were young, but I do think that they keep family important in their everyday living. I saw them helping out not only with their kids this weekend, but also helping others.  Before we had a slide show of some old photographs that Teresa had, Daryl’s brothers and sister gave a short presentation of an interview from what they asked their folk’s on their 50th anniversary. The interview was how Carl and Teresa met, along with advice for their children and grandchildren. Pretty cool stuff, and one of Carl’s answers got the biggest laugh. His advice to married couples is to “Work hard,  keep your mouth shut and your eyes open.”  He also said “Don’t get too busy and forget each other” Sound like good advice doesn’t it.

So what did we all do this weekend? Like I said earlier, there was tons of outside games -boccie ball, lawn golf, horse shoes, kick ball, football, bean bags, basketball, trampoline, and chalk coloring. We had games inside along with enough food to feed I think most of Lawler. I’m a person who lays in bed thinking about how everything went after a big party. Trying to figure out what went well,  and also what didn’t go so well. But I couldn’t think of a thing that I would change. Some of Daryl’s family said that it was just perfect and I really think everyone had a great time. The farm was as trimmed up and with all the buildings painted, and the flowers were in full bloom  it really looked good!  When the evening came around, Daryl loaded up the wagon and into town they went for a ride. It was so funny, and I don’t know how in the world they got everyone in, but they did. They said that they could have fit a couple more people on the ride – but I’m not sure that they could have!

Believe it or not, everyone fit on the wagon!

Now this is a wagon load!

We had a couple of meals in the Roadhouse and that worked out really well. It was so informal and with enough room to spread out, and I don’t think we could have done that any better. All our hard work this past year really paid off, and it was a good decision to fix up that old farrowing house. Sparklers and  a great fireworks display from William was a high light of the night when the sun went down. The kids played out side or sat by the bonfire until after 11, and then into the tents they went for the night. After early church the next morning that was for Carl, Teresa Kuehner and also Daryl’s brother, Eugene, we had a light breakfast before everyone packed up and headed home.

It was a close game of bean bags

One of Daryl’s family said it just exactly perfect when we were sitting around Saturday night at the kitchen table. She said that this weekend was about creating memories. I think that she was right and what great memories we all have from this weekend.

Thanks Judy. It was so nice when Daryl’s brothers and sisters said that the day couldn’t have been more perfect. I’m checking this one off as a success!

Sounds like you all had a wonderful time. Wish we could have been there I would have loved to be behind the wheel of that tractor again.
