Thank goodness for showers and family

It was hot! I don’t mean the type when you sit in the sun and think that maybe you should move into the shade.. I mean when you walked outside you thought to yourself  “It’s hot”.  So when I did chores in the morning, I knew that Apollo was going to get too warm if I didn’t set up the barn fan. I thought that I better also put a smaller fan in the chicken coop for the chickens. At first Apollo didn’t like the sound of the fan because it’s loud, but after awhile he sure got the hang of it and that’s where he spent the day. I have to make it the first thing that I do on Tuesday to comb out his hair and give him a haircut. Usually both dogs will get sick and loose weight when the weather is so hot so we have to do what we can to keep them cool.

With the weather so hot, every morning it’s become a routine to water everything. It takes about an hour and boy it sure needs it. Even though it’s been so dry, the garden and berries are doing good, and this week I’ll have to pick the berries for sure. My cabbage is running into some trouble though. I put the egg shells around them and it’s not working. I think I’ll have to get some powder to put on them. I hate to add any chemicals to our garden, but I think I’ll have to for this case.  I took down and moved all the hanging baskets inside the calf shed for now. The weather has been nuts and this way they won’t dry out so much and the wind won’t kill them. I’d really want them to look nice for this weekend if I could.

William washed up the Chevelle on Sunday and took some pictures for me for the Roadhouse. We wanted to do it as a surprise for Daryl, but it just seemed easier to let him know what we’re doing. I’m having a local photography business make some huge posters and then I’m going to have them matted and put up inside. Sometimes you have to pay a little bit more when you go to a local store, but you sure get a much better service than a chain store. Why I’m saying this is because they called and asked if I thought about having the picture printed the one way instead of the other way. I didn’t know if it would work, and they said that they tried it and it looked good. How cool is that? I also want to get some other signs made out of vinyl that I need to make, but we’ll see just exactly what I do and don’t get done.

The next thing on the list? Spray the cows for flies. I’ve been talking to Daryl about how the cows are really hating the flies and what I can get for them. It’s a bother for most of the cows but a real problem for No Ears. The reason that it’s a problem was because obviously she doesn’t have any ears, but when she was little she also lost her tail. So she can’t swat any flies that are landing on her. So this weekend we bought some fly spray and a sprayer. So after I filled up the sprayer, off to see how I was going to get them sprayed. I knew that I wouldn’t have any trouble with Rion, and I also knew that I wasn’t even going to come close to Stormy, but I wasn’t sure on the other three. After hanging out in the cow yard for sometime, I eventually got some spray on most of the spots on the cows. It was starting to get windy, so a lot of the spray blew into the air. They were nervous about me spraying them, so I hope that it gets better as the week goes on. But with the crazy wind, I had a lot of over spray land on me. I read the directions and they really don’t want you to get any of this on you at all. So into the shower I went. I thought that this is the best thing, just get completely washed up and throw the clothes in the wash.

Even though I was cleaned up, I wanted to hang out in our house attic and see what was left up there that I could use in the Roadhouse. Now I don’t know how you’re attic is, but I can tell you that ours is HOT! I had some chairs stored up there, along with some old toys that Daryl’s family played when they were kids. With the temperature hitting 100 yesterday, I have no idea how hot the attic was, but I’m guessing at least that, and more. So down the attic steps and then down our upstairs steps, across the yard, and into the Roadhouse the stuff went. As I was doing this, I had sweat dripping where I never knew it could drip from! But I did get everything moved that I’m thinking that I needed, then I also needed another shower. This time it was because I was so hot and just dripping with sweat. Not pretty.

I started to rearrange the Roadhouse when I called my sister to see if she still wanted to get rid of her small pool table and ping pong table. She said that she did, and that we could have it if we wanted it. So when Daryl got home from town, over to my brothers to get the trailer we went. We were going to use their trailer to haul not only the pool table, but we could also look at some used couches and furniture that my brother-in-law had. OK, FUN! So off to West Union we went and picked up their pool table, and then to my brother-in-laws store. What a chance of a lifetime! He had some used couches that would work perfect for the Roadhouse. When we left, we had two sleeper sofas, a table, and three chairs. Yea, JACKPOT!! I mean how nice is that? Both him and my sister helped us move them into the trailer and back home we went.

The BEST furniture store!

The kids didn't waste any time and set up the ping pong table

After we unloaded all our treasures, we needed to bring the trailer and truck back to my brothers farm. It was perfect timing, they just got home from a swim meet and we spent some time just sitting out on their porch visiting and checking out the kid’s new bunny and little kitties. Then off to my other brothers place we went to drop off my sister-in-law’s birthday gift. I’ve been driving around with it for a couple of weeks, and since we were in the neighborhood I wanted to give it to her. When we got to their place, they had a camp fire going, so we made ourselves comfortable. We stayed for a couple of drinks. When we got home and  pulled into the yard we could see that the lights were on in the Roadhouse. We found William was sitting on one of the couches watching a movie on his TV. He brought his TV out and hooked up the big speaker to it. I sat down and watched some of the movie with him, and as I was sitting on the there you could feel the couch vibrate from the speakers. Finally around 12:30 I went into the house and … you guessed it, took a bath.  But what a good day to get a lot done! I still don’t have my bench on the wall, so hopefully I can get Daryl to help me sometime this week. I want to arrange the Roadhouse and then I’ll take some pictures of the sitting area because it is going to be so cool. I’m sure thankful though that my brothers let us use their truck and trailer, and that my brother-in-law and sister helped us out with some furniture and the pool table. I laughed at Daryl because last night when he walked into the Roadhouse, he looked around and was wondering if there was going to be room to store his car in there anymore or if he was going to have to add on. Add on? 🙂
