Rainy day

I decided that I am not that organized when it comes to a rainy day. I still had hopes that if it rained, it would be later tonight so I can get more painting done outside. But that’s not how it happened. It started to drizzle in the morning and I knew that it would be too wet to paint so I headed to the tomatoes. I had some tomatoes in the refrigerator  that was ready to be put into some kind of recipe, so I made a batch of salsa and then canned them. I also picked more tomatoes and it seems like sometime you need to take a few years to get smarter doesn’t it? What I’m talking about is when I used to pick tomatoes they would always get small little gnats flying around on them. This wouldn’t be such a big deal, but I would bring the tomatoes into the house and set them on the counter. Now this is where the ‘getting smarter’ comes in. Well, as I was walking with the flat of tomatoes from the garden, I walked right by William’s greenhouse. Then it dawned on me. Why don’t I just store the tomatoes in there? I wouldn’t have to worry about any gnats or if the tomatoes are dirty, and I can come in and get them when I was ready for them. Talk about a slow learner huh? Well, needless to say it worked out pretty well.

Since it rained pretty much on and off all day, I finished the barn sign. I was sure glad that I cleaned the basement for the electrician who came last week to look at our water heater. I dug out some saw horses that William had stored outside in the shed and painted all the black numbers and trim. Tomorrow I’ll put a couple of sealant coats on it and hopefully we’ll get it hung back on the barn where it belongs.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to send some peacock feathers to Kyle in Korea. It seems weird that they start to loose their feathers always this early, but the males pretty much have all of their long feathers gone. I kept a couple back to show a friend of mine. Her son is getting married next fall and is thinking of decorating with peacock feathers. If they are going to do this, all she needs to do is to wait until  next July and she can have all of ours. Kyle’s friend in Korea really wanted the white peacock’s feathers, but Lucky (white peacock) got his feet caught this spring in some string and the dogs pulled out his whole tail. I heard the dogs barking and when I went to investigate what in the world was going on, I followed a trail of feathers until I found Lucky on the ground and both dogs with feathers in their mouths. This is the second time Lucky had his feathers pulled out. The first time was by Daryl a couple of years ago. Daryl was moving the hay rack when he saw the white peacock (he didn’t have his name yet). He told him to move and then he started to pull ahead with the tractor. When all of a sudden he heard this TERRIBLE scream! When he looked back, he noticed that the white peacock got his tail stuck under the tire and was trying to get out. The peacock was standing there with his mouth open and screaming as loud as he could. Well, the peacock got so scared that he pulled and pulled until he pulled out his own tail.  Daryl felt really bad, but wasn’t able to back up as fast as the peacock wanted to get out. So this is why we started to call him – Lucky. And when I saw him with both dogs over him this spring, I think it was a very good name after all.

Even though I won’t be sending any white feathers, I’m sure that the colored ones will be just fine for them. I’m going to go to my brother in laws floor covering business this afternoon to see how big the carpet roll cardboards are. I’m hoping that they’ll work and I would be able to ship out the feathers to Korea tomorrow.
