Scooping snow

It snowed during the night on Thursday and then snowed a little more on Friday, but we never did the terrible snow storm that everyone was saying that we  were going to get. But I guess that it’s a good thing we missed out on the wind because we would have for sure had white outs in the country. The snowmobilers have been out though with the couple of inches that we did get, and I’m thinking that they wished that we could have even got more snow. It’s funny how the area counts on the income from snowmobilers driving around at night. It never used to be that big of an income for the local bars and restaurants, and it really only changed in the last couple of years. I’ve heard one of the local owners saying that this year has really taken a toll on his income because we haven’t had much snow.

So even though there wasn’t two feet of snow they predicted, the couple of inches that did fall can make a mess if it’s not scraped up. It wasn’t too long after Daryl got home from work on Friday, that I heard the tractor and  bucket out in the yard. It’s funny how a sound can make you remember stuff isn’t it? When the kids were little and they heard Daryl scooping snow, within minutes you’d see them outside and on top of that snow pile. They’d have their blue snow suits on and would be sledding down – what they thought was a snow mountain. With a small plastic sled in one hand, they spent a lot of time making that years snow mountain the best sledding path yet! When I think of the kids outside on those snow hills, I think that this is what living out in the country and on a farm is all about. Just hanging out with the sled and the dog,  and being the King of the Snow Mountain one more year.

I was outside doing chores when I got home from work and took off the snow that was covering the small patch of corn that spilled the last time Daryl ground corn. I know that the birds and peacocks usually hang out there to grab something to eat and once I got inside the house, I saw that the peacocks already had found that it was uncovered. They have to eat fast because even though Reno has gained some weight, if she sees them you –  can count on that she’s going to chase them!

And if you’re wondering how our fish fry travels are going – we had a great time last night in Alta Vista with my brother and sister-in law. I know that I’ve never been to that town before, so it was really fun to go some place that wasn’t too far away and just check it out. We still  are on our quest to find more fish frys and we are planning for another road trip next week.
