Just couldn’t sleep

Did you ever have one of those nights when you just couldn’t sleep very well? That was the problem that I had last night. Around midnight I kept hearing the dog barking and barking and it was driving me crazy. Of course Daryl was sleeping very sound beside me and didn’t hear a thing, so I got out of bed and downstairs I went. I grabbed my robe and on went my boots then off to the barn. When I got in the barn Reno was so wound up. I’m not sure what was going on, but she wanted everyone to know that something wasn’t right. So after I sat with her awhile, the cows found out that I was in the barn and they started to make a racket. Now I knew that Daryl fed them earlier, but I decided to find my pocket knife and get some hay bales out to them to keep them quiet. So about now I figured everyone should be OK and walked back to the house. After my boots were off I could see that our neighbor was driving around in his cow yard and I thought to myself, what in the world is he doing up at this hour of the night and much less out with his cows. Then I remembered that I just got in from the barn. So then I thought that maybe their animals were also spooked. I was wondering if some coyotes or dogs were running in the neighborhood. I saw some coyotes run in front of me when I was driving home the other day from town and that was the first time that I saw them around in our neighborhood since we moved here 30 years ago. What ever was going on last night, I’m sure hoping that we all get a good night sleep tonight!

Other things going on in our neighborhood is that our road is finally getting better. With the rain that we got over the weekend, we had quite a bit of water running over it by our farm. It was kind of dangerous to be honest. The water was running over the road and then it got covered with snow. So when you were driving through it, you hit this pocket of water that you had no idea that it was there. Oh well, it’s getting better, but the warning signs are still out on the road.

I made up a new recipe tonight for supper, and I’m thinking it’s probably not the best thing for anyone. Not young people or old people. What I did was that I took hamburger and made some individual meat loaves and when I put them in the over I completely wrapped them in bacon. OK, so it wasn’t the healthiest supper we’ve ever had, but I’m thinking that my house smelled better than anyone else’s in the neighborhood. Maybe that’s why we’ve got coyote trouble – you think?

Can you say bacon?

And to finish off the night, I made some things to send to William for his birthday. I want to get the box off tomorrow so it gets there for his birthday on Friday, so I quick made a birthday card and some treats. We’re hoping to get down to see him this weekend, but we’ll have to see what his schedule looks like. For some reason a 19 year old has a much more exciting schedule that a 52 year old. Hum.. go figure.
