The weekend

What a wet and gloomy weekend we had here in Iowa. But I don’t want to complain too much because we had a chance to talk with Kyle tonight and he said that before he could take his car out, he had to shovel two feet of snow off the top of it. He lives on the east coast and with all our rain that we’ve been getting here, it gradually turned into snow when heading east. So I think the rain that we’ve been getting isn’t just so bad and I’m trying not to complain too much. Daryl ran into town today, and said that there was a couple of spots on our road that they water is running over it to get to the ditch on the other side. Usually this happens in March , but not that often in February. With not having a lot of snow this winter, it’s good to get some moisture back into the soil for next spring. I just hope that tomorrow morning we won’t have it all turn to ice.

This weekend I did just a little bit of everything. I was able to get a couple of cards made for two different friends. Both my cards were sympathy cards, and I wanted to see if I could make two completely different cards with one stamp, and I think I succeeded. I’ll have to mail them tomorrow from the post office because they will have to be hand stamped with the extra ‘stuff on them.

As for Reno, she was so funny. We had spaghetti for supper on Friday night and one of the things that I made with it was some garlic bread sticks. They were not too bad, but Daryl didn’t like them at all. Since I made extras, I just threw them outside for the cats or Reno to eat  because I knew that we wouldn’t eat them. And between the cats or the dog, who got to it first? Reno of course. She grabbed the bread stick and ran through the yard like it was a cigar out of her mouth. Then she went up to the snow bank, looked around, and buried it in it. I wish I could have got a picture of her running through the yard with it in her mouth, but I did get one with her burying it. With the rain that we had this weekend, I’m thinking that it’s probably mush by now and she should have ate it when she had the chance.

I'm sure she was thinking that this was a good idea at the time

I also found another recipe to use with crescent rolls, and since I just happen to have a tube in the refrigerator I tried it out. I realize that I have this problem with always having to have three things in the house. And if I run out of any one of these things, it seems like every recipe that I want to make calls for one of them. The three things that I have to have are : cream cheese, butter, and crescent rolls. After looking at these ingredients, they are probably not the things that you should have in the refrigerator if you’re on a diet, but oh well. So my new recipe is very, very good. It’s also one of the easiest recipes to make ever. To make these cinnamon rolls this is what you’ll need:

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons 2% milk
  • 1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Pour into a greased 9-in. pie plate; set aside.
  • Separate crescent dough into four rectangles; gently press perforations to seal. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over rectangles. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seams to seal.
  • Cut each into eight slices; place cut side down in prepared pie plate. Bake at 375° for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pie plate for 1 minute before inverting onto a serving plate.

These are soooo good. They are almost like small cinnamon roll poppers. If you make them, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Because they are small, every time you walk by them you just pop some more in your mouth.

Very easy and very addicting

I ended up the weekend looking for my bicycle shoes. I need to start riding my bike on the trainer for RAGBRAI, and using my bike shoes would so much better than my tennis shoes. I looked all over for them and I couldn’t find them for nothing. I thought first I left them in the Roadhouse, then I checked out where we keep our bike clothes stored, I thought that maybe they got mixed in with our stuff in our basement so after I organized that, they were still no where to be found. Then for some crazy idea, I thought I’d check the shoe closet. Never did I think that they’d be in there – but I was wrong! Who would have thought that my sandals would be in the shoe closet. duh ! Next time, that’s where I’m going to start looking.

The last thing to do tonight is to go through all my coupons and to get ready for some double coupon shopping this week. One of our local grocery stores has double coupons once a week and I’m getting excited for that! Kind of sad to get that excited about going grocery shopping, but it definitely is a challenge. So once I go, I’ll let you know how successful I was. I’m positive that I could never be as good as those ladies on the TV shows, but I think if I can save anything, I’m that much more ahead.
