Visitor

I was getting ready the other day when I had an unexpected visitor. What happened the other  night was this.

I was getting dressed and was excited about hanging out with some friends. We were going to go to supper and have a couple of  drinks. I had some extra time before I had to leave, so I turned on the TV and was watching this one show. I would  watch it until there was a commercial, get dressed, watch some more, put make up on,… well you get the picture. I usually don’t get too involved with many shows, but this one was kind of crazy and really kept my attention. It was about this murder that took place in Michigan,  and it wasn’t solved for 18 years later. The two guys that were just traveling through got killed were taken out in a clearing and was killed. Now mind you not just ‘killed’,  but the one guy had his head taken off and then they were both fed to the pigs. Yea, bad stuff. I just couldn’t believe it, and it was in a small town that no one wanted to tell on these bullies because they were killing other people. So needless to say, that I was just amazed and very much into this show. Well by now it was time to get my shoes on and head out the door. When I was just walking through the kitchen the door bell rang. First of all, the only people that ring door bells is usually someone you don’t know. So I went to the door and opened it. There stood a friendly man with a round face and grey hair. OK, what was he selling? Well he wasn’t selling anything, but he as an Assessor.  Now I remembered Daryl saying something about an assessor, but of course I didn’t listen too close. About this time, I thought let’s just get this done and wanted to know what he had to do. So off to the basement we headed. I’ve never hung out with an assessor before, so he said that he had to check out all the rooms in the house. From the attic to the basement. When we were coming out of the basement all of a sudden I had one of those creepy feelings and thought to myself – who really is this guy? I asked for his identification and he pulled out a business card. I pretended to read it, but without my glasses it was pretty much a waste of time – but I did fake like I was really studying it. So I smiled and said, OK. After giving him a tour of the house, we had a chance to talk about his job. He said that if people were nice like me, that he was really fair. Good thing I was working on the nice part! I told him that it is scary to let someone in your house that you don’t know and walk them around. (I didn’t tell him about the bad show that I just watched!) He said that he knew that it is scary and we both agreed that you have to be careful anymore. He said that this is why he taught his 9 year old daughter to shoot a hand gun and if she ever had to use it, to shoot the person right in the head. OK, WHAT? Now it was time for him to leave. I said that I had to go and he also walked outside. But with the paperwork that he had to do, he worked on it in his car. I went and started our car and came back inside to see if he would hurry up with his paperwork and then leave. It’s not that we have all these treasures in our house, because we don’t. But I really didn’t want to leave with him outside and no one in our house. Finally he backed out of our yard, but sat now on the road to finish his paperwork. I think he was thinking that I wanted to leave, but he was blocking me. Man it was more stressful than I was looking for. I stood in the house with my shoes and coat on trying to get a gimps if he was still here , and finally he pulled away. I think he was a very nice man, but you can start to get a little weird when you watch those crazy TV shows sometimes! Next time I’ve got time to watch a TV show -it’s going to be Storage Wars or Say Yes to the Dress!
