This afternoon Daryl and I decided it was time to go and find a Christmas tree. We have the artificial tree up in the Roadhouse, but we like to get a real tree for the house if we can. So the next step was to find out where we were going to get it from. We’ve bought our trees these last couple of years from quite a few different places and I was looking for some place new. After talking with my sister, she said she always got their tree from this one farm by Decorah, and they always had really good luck. So Daryl and I got into the truck and headed north. We didn’t really know what ‘type’ of a tree that we were looking for, but we did know that we wanted one that keeps it needles on longer. We didn’t have any trouble finding the place and soon we were off with our hand saw and feeling pretty good. Well, you really don’t want to take the first one that you see, you know… just in case there was a better one up the hill. So after we walked up the hill and through all the trees in the first planting, we decided to keep going. We found a lot of really good trees, but Daryl convinced me that they would be just way too big for our living room. After we started in the THIRD field of trees, I knew Daryl’s patience was getting a little slim. Well, we did finally find one and it was going to be perfect. The only thing bad about it was that we were three fields away from the farm and had to drag it back. It wasn’t so bad (OK, I confess Daryl drug it back to the farm not me) and soon we were off to our house with our new treasure. I was disappointed though. I brought my camera with me to the tree farm and for some reason it didn’t store the pictures. I’ve been swapping my SD card back and forth between cameras and today it convinced me that this was just about enough of doing that! I’m ordering two new cards tomorrow. OK, so after we cut off some of the bottom branches and put it up in our living room, we found out that it was just a little bit too tall. Not too bad, but I was sure glad that Daryl talked me out of cutting down the trees that were about 3 foot taller! But for now, our house smells wonderful and the tree is just perfect!
