This is a weird time of the year. If you talk to any of your friends, they are in the same boat. What I’m talking about is if they should let their flowers die at night or keep them alive. Yup, it might not sound like a big deal.. but let me tell you it’s a stressful decision. And especially this year! You spent most (or all) of the year watering, and watering…. the flowers, and now you have to make the decision these cold nights if you should let them die from the frost. So until you can just let them die, you spend many nights dragging around sheets and blankets covering them up. And if you really want to get everything covered, you sometimes are bringing out the pillow cases and just trying to do your best. OK, so back to the flowers. So just about the time that you want to go to bed, you find out that it’s going to freeze and now you have to me the call if you are going to let your flowers and garden die or not. If you decide to try to keep them alive, you grab some shoes and find the sheets and head outside. You cover up as much as you can and when you’re walking back to the house out of the corner of your eye you can see the wind take the sheets and uncover just what you covered up. So back you go and try to ‘hook’ the sheet to something, you say some bad things under your breath, and now you walk back to the house without looking back because you really don’t want to know if the wind actually took it the second time or not. Now no one is making you do this, and if you talk to any of the husbands they will say that it’s really a pretty silly process. But, you just don’t care what anyone thinks, because they are your flowers and they are still looking good.
But… I’ve given in to the fact that I can let of some of my flowers freeze this week. I did put some in the greenhouse, and some in the Roadhouse, and yes I’ve even covered up a couple yet tonight. I’ve even covered only a couple of the tomatoes in the garden, otherwise I’ve pulled out everything else and given it to the chickens. So now, it’s cold outside and because I can’t just let everything freeze, I got all my fresh downy sheets pulled out of storage and they are covering the plants that I just couldn’t let go yet.
