Weddings

It seems like weddings kind of come in waves, and we’ve been invited to a couple of weddings coming up in the next few weeks. We also went to one this past weekend and I’ve been thinking about it a lot ever since. I was trying to figure out just why I couldn’t wait for the day to come. I was thinking how long I knew the grooms mom and I think that had a lot to do with me being so excited for the wedding. The grooms mom and I started to hang out way back in 1979 when we met right after high school, and we’ve been friends ever since. We not only went on to a local college together for the same classes, but we eventually lived together. In the town where we had our apartment,  I started working in a downtown business, when she started to work for another business. But soon I quit my job and we worked together for almost 10 years. We were always together and I still laugh when I think about paydays when I’d go to the bank to cash my paycheck, only to find out that the front office gave me her check instead of mine. So I would just cash it and then we’d exchange the money when I’d get home. Then we started having steady boyfriends and it turned out that we both got married within about a year of each other. Soon we were both expecting our first babies and our lives changed once again.  So when I said went to a wedding on Saturday, it was her first son’s wedding that we were at. Her son is the same age as our son, so we saw quite a bit of each other and each others families as they were growing up. So back to Saturday and I’m sitting in church just waiting for the ceremony to start. Daryl is up front singing, (which he also sang 28 years ago at the grooms parents wedding – Cool huh!) when the bride started to walk up the aisle. I could see my friends son, and I really had to hold back the tears. It seems just like yesterday that he was this little guy with a really big smile when he was playing with toy trucks, and now the smile that he was wearing was for his beautiful bride coming down the aisle. When in the world did these kids grow up so fast? I truly wish both the groom and the bride all the best in the whole world and I’m anxious for my friends next step in their life with the addition of a daughter to their family.
