Checking things off my list.. and adding a couple more

So today I wanted to get the tomatoes and peppers canned that I had sitting in our entry way just waiting for me. I don’t know about you, but I can sure make a mess and a lot of dishes doing this. But after I was at it for awhile, I really got into a grove and I was able to can over 40 jars of spaghetti sauce and pepper jelly. Now who in their right mind would eat that much? Especially because I have over 20 some jars of spaghetti sauce already canned and I forgot how many jars of jelly are in the basement. But I hate to waste anything from the garden and I thought that maybe I’d make lasagna for the Franzen Get Together in November and that would take quite a few jars of the spaghetti sauce. But now for the pepper jelly? Not sure. If there ever was a pepper jelly shortage all I can say is ‘Party at our House!’

Over 40 more jars canned today

Daryl shelled out a couple more wagon loads of corn out of the field so he could put it with the rest of the corn in the bins and then started the dryer. It wouldn’t make sense to start the dryer with only the first couple of loads that he shelled the other day. Some people don’t like the noise that the dryer makes, but for me? I like it. But it definitely is a true sign that summer is gone and fall is here. It’s funny though because you lay in bed listening to it to make sure that you can hear the burner starting and stopping. Because if you don’t hear the burner, it means that the heat isn’t getting to the corn and it’s not drying it either. It also means that you are probably going to get out of bed during the middle of the night to see why it isn’t working.

Unloading the first corn of the year into the bins

I ran to town last night to do some shopping.  My new job dress code is jeans, and since I really never wore them much to my old job I thought I’d better see if I can find some new ones. Also on the dress code is khaki pants so that was on my list too. Normally I have just terrible luck looking for jeans, and I only gave myself 1 hour (or less) to find them so I thought that this could only be bad. But I had luck right away in one store and walked out really happy. Who would have known? Not me that’s for sure. The reason that I didn’t have much time to shop is because I wanted to pick up a couple of other things and one of them was a new CAMERA! My small little pocket one died over a year ago and I since I had a gift for over 3 years, I figured this was the time to use it. We’re heading to the Iowa State game on Saturday so it’ll be the perfect time to see if I like it or not. I’m thinking that I’m going to like it.
