I had put some hamburgers on the grill for supper when Daryl started to work on the one shed door. If you remember this was the one that had flipped up on the shed roof this spring when we got such high winds. Now that it’s getting close to fall and winter, he started to take the metal off of it to replace it. He just wanted to get the metal off for tonight and then order some more tin tomorrow.
Once he got that done, he wanted to go check out the crops. Well the hamburgers were done, but no big deal. I shut off the grill and just put the burgers on the top rack and grabbed some shoes to go with him. He thought that maybe with the hot weather and wind, that he might be able to get in the field this week. But after checking the beans out, he thought it might be at least another week before he’ll get to take them out.
While we were out in the field, the weather got kind of funny. There were storm warnings out for our area, and you could really tell that something was definitely brewing.
Next stop was to see how the corn was doing. Daryl peeled back some of the husks and it doesn’t look too bad. The ground is so dry and with cracks all around in the field, a little rain would be nice. But if we have to take it with a storm, I’m not so sure that we would want it. It would be terrible if we got this far with the crops and then it was wrecked with winds and hail.
We stopped at the gas station and when Daryl ran in for a second, the clouds were just rolling. I grabbed the camera again and took a quick picture.
We warmed up the burgers when we got home and they tasted just fine. And just as we sat down for the night, the wind started to pick up. Back outside we went to move the vehicles inside buildings and hope that the storm wasn’t going to be too bad. There ended up being a couple of tornadoes spotted around north east Iowa and some towns did get hail. But we ended up with around 1 inch of rain that came around 2:30 in the morning and no damage at our farm or fields. Whew, that’s good.
