William wanted to take off a little bit earlier to head back to college, so after we got all his clothes repacked, all of a sudden he said that he needed his big speaker. He was planning on taking his speaker to college? And it was going to fit into his dorm room? Well he said it was going back with him and they had the perfect spot for it. After he put it in the back of his car, off to Ames he went. Daryl and I just stood and watched him put the speaker into his car, and by the looks of it, he knew just how to do it. So after he got to school, he sent a picture of how his room looks, and he was right, it did fit!
Well after William left in the morning, Daryl and I were trying to think of something fun to do today. We thought at first that we’d go to the water park because it was really hot outside, but they were closed already for the season. Then we talked about going to a ball game, but with the weather, we thought that we should think of something else to do instead. Then we found a concert that was going to happen later in the afternoon. Even though it was going to be hot, the tickets were so reasonable that we thought we could always leave if we felt that it wasn’t worth it. So we talked about taking the Chevelle for the drive, but without air conditioning, that wasn’t such a good idea. After putting some gas in the car and grabbing a couple of Diet Cokes, down to the Casino we went to check out the entertainment. About half way there we noticed some rain clouds moving in and it wasn’t much after that it started to sprinkle. So now we were laughing because we were so worried about the weather being too hot and now we were a little worried about it being too cold. It was about an hour and a half to get to the casino and even though there was clouds, the weather was really much better than we thought it might be. It started to sprinkle again when we just got there, so we went inside for a drink to see if it was going to stop. When we came outside it wasn’t sprinkling or raining and we headed for the bleachers and the first performance was just starting. It was so much fun! There wasn’t as many people probably as they were hoping to have because of the weather, but there was still a pretty good crowd. The first band was Night Ranger. Now to be honest, I’m not that good with band names and I wasn’t sure that I’ve even heard of these guys before. But after they started to play, I did know most of their songs.
The skies got a little cloudy again and soon the sprinkles turned a little heavier. But we had the nicest people behind us and they had two umbrellas and gave us one of theirs to use. We did have to use it on and off during the first show, but when Boston came on stage – the weather was great! It was such a spur of the moment decision to go to the Boston concert, what a great idea it was. They sounded fantastic!
After the show we went in to gamble a little bit, and we did actually end up winning. Now granted, it wasn’t a million dollars, but we did cash it in and it paid for two steak suppers that night. It was so funny because neither Daryl or I are really big gamblers, and when we won on both our slot machines, this little old lady had to tell us what we were supposed to do with the ticket that printed out. The last time that either one of us went gambling, you just won $$ out of the machines. So off with our two tickets and we must have looked lost, because another elderly lady came up and showed us what machine to put the tickets in to get our money. When we thanked her for helping us, she said that she had to help someone else earlier also because they didn’t have a clue what they were doing either. humm… I think that was a slam. Anyway, when we were waiting to be seated we ended up meeting a couple who are really good friends with my sister and her husband, so we ate with them. Then it was time to get back home and get ready for the upcoming week. Even though we did get home kind of late, we sure had the best time. I think sometimes when you just go and do something without much planning, you can have the best time, don’t you?
