Labor Day weekend – Saturday

I had all the lawn mowed, dishes and laundry done, and was looking for something to do for the afternoon. Daryl was out working on the farm equipment in the yard, and it looked pretty much that he was going to spend the afternoon doing that. He was in the processes of putting the new front end on his tractor that I got him last year at Christmas. So I’ve been wanting to go on a bike ride lately and that’s what I did. I dug out my bike clothes and put my bike into the car. I headed to a nearby town that has a bike trail, and since it was close, it didn’t take long to get there. After I got my bike helmet on and my bike out of the car – I was off. It was fun! It’s been so long since I was on a bike trail and it wasn’t too crowded at all. The leaves were just starting to fall from the trees that made kind of a canopy over the road and every once in a while you had to watch out for the squirrels that were picking up the walnuts along the trail. There was a weird part of the ride though. And that was I kept hearing cars, but they were beside the trail and not what I was riding on. I’m more used to listening to cars and then making sure to get out of their way so they don’t hit me or the bike when they pass. So that took some getting used to. I saw a couple of people that I knew and I decided that I’m going to go back again soon and ride that trail again!

I got home just in time to get cleaned up and Daryl and I headed to the races in Decorah. It was the year end finals and it was a perfect night for them. Not too hot and not cold. The races are run on a dirt track, so the dust and dirt was just flying. It’s amazing how good those drivers actually are though, and none of the drivers got hurt or crashed too bad. We saw a couple of friends that we knew that was at the races, and even some that were on the bike trail earlier that day. I didn’t think that they would have recognized me when I was riding because I was wearing a helmet and big sunglasses (I put my biking ones in a ‘good spot’ and couldn’t find them again) but I guess I must still look like myself even dressed like that.
