Parades and Rain

Mom and I got our lawn chairs ready on Friday and headed towards a nearby town that was having a parade. The parade started at 7:00 pm. and we knew that we needed to get there early otherwise we’ll have to walk quite a ways to find a good spot. The town has around 850 people in it, and for this parade if you are not on a float – you are at the parade watching. We found a good place to set our chairs down and it was right by some ladies who my Mom plays cards with. Perfect spot. As we were waiting for the parade to start, we were talking about how in the world we’ll know when my sisters float will be coming by. She was on a float with some others from her work and I guess we would just have to wait and see. The parade started the same as other parades in small towns do. The veterans start off the festivities, but this time they stopped on main street and someone from the town sang the Star Spangled Banner while everyone paid their respects. It was a really nice way to start.

Very nice beginning to the parade

Then came the floats and the candy! I have never seen so much candy and things given away in my life. I teased my Mom that she should have brought a bag to put her candy in, and by the end of the night she really could have used it!  Then out of the corner of my eye I could see this huge boat coming. Now my sister said that they were going to dress up as Gilligan’s Island, but I guess I didn’t realize that they were going to use a REAL boat! It was a great float and it really looked like they were having a good time. I laughed when my sister said that someone told her to DUCK! They were going under a sign and it almost hit her. The parade lasted around an hour and then back home we went. I think the town parades are about over with because the kids are all heading back to school – but you just never know.

Riding a boat on a Friday night down main street

Rain – yes, it’s been raining. Now not huge amounts, but at least we’ve got some these past couple of days. I think we’ve got almost an inch so far which will help out with filling the corn ears out and help with the beans. The temperature was around 60 degrees last night and I saw some people with hooded sweatshirts on. Wow! How fast the weather turns around. With the weather so cool last night, today is really nice outside. I’m trying to convince the guys that we should do something fun today. But for now, they are thinking a good nap sounds so much better.
