Projects and more projects

Today was a busy day and we were able to get a little bit of all our projects worked on.

The garden is still not cleaned up from all the weeds that took over these past few weeks that it was raining,  so William worked on that while I painted. I was hoping to get at least 3 gallons used today but only was able to paint  2 1/2 gallons. It seems like I’ve been painting with red for quite sometime, so hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to get the red part done and then switch to white. But today was a really nice day to be outside. Only one cloud came over that looked like it could have rained on us – it must have changed it’s mind and the sun came back out. I had the opportunity to listen to William’s music today while we were outside working.  When Daryl is outside, he always has on a classic rock station on the ‘boom box’ and it seems really loud. Now that I’ve had a chance to be outside with William, I think he wins the loud category. He has a gigantic speaker that he got free and he cranks it up by hooking up his iPod onto it. I had usually no idea on what music he is playing most of the time, but that didn’t matter. From the other side of the farm it all sounds like thumping noise anyway! Boy, doesn’t that date me.

The doors just waiting to get hung up on the machine shed

When Daryl came home from New Hampton we worked on putting the doors up on the machine shed and then headed over to the farrowing house to see if we could get the chain out of the gutter. After a couple of different tries at it, out it came. Now it’s time to scoop out what is left over in the gutter! So we have three things going on tomorrow. We need to finish the garden weeding, finish painting the granary, I have fresh strawberries on the counter that needs to be made into jam,  and scoop out the gutter. William and I will both tackle the garden the first thing in the morning and we should get that done. I want to plant some radishes and we still have leftover tomatoes that need a home. Can you believe it? I should count how many tomatoes that we actually have planted. I’m thinking it’s quite a bit. We should be able to make some more room in the garden once the weeds are gone. I can make jam at noon, it shouldn’t take much time to get that done. And then I think I’ll paint while he cleans out the gutter. I’m not very excited about the gutter idea and since he’s a kid, I bet he’ll like it better than I would!

Maybe I missed something but why are you clearing out the farrowing barn. To store the Chevelle? When Erin was a little baby Uncle Carl held her in that building and the pigs would scream and erin would scream and that would make the pigs scream more, it was one of those times we never forget.

It started out to store the Chevelle but then we saw the opportunity to have extra storage for other things. And you know once you start a project it grows. So we also thought as long as we’re messing with it, we might as well do some landscaping. So now we’re waiting for a backhoe to come in that we hired to dig out all the cement south of the farrowing house. It was the old hog barn. Funny story about the pigs!!
