I saw an ad for a sale at a nursery that I wanted to go to today. The ad was a sale that they were having and it also said that you could get 25% off if it rained while you were shopping. Well, I didn’t really think it was going to rain because we’ve been missing the rain it seems like for the whole summer , but I did want to see what they had for plants and what was on their sale. Just as I was heading south, it started to sprinkle on the windshield and it was raining more and more as I kept driving. Well I had it in my head that if I got some plants on sale and then I got ANOTHER 25% off because it rained- score! So I put the pedal down and was driving the farm truck to the nursery just trying to beat the rain. I never looked how much gas I had before I left, and I should have. As I’m now in front of the rain and I look down, yea.. not much gas in the truck, but should be enough to get home if I drive ‘better’ on the way home. So I was watching for cops and got about half way to the nursery and it stops raining. Bad luck, but OK. Then just as I’m pulling into the nursery it starts to rain again and I’m pretty excited. I tried to act real cool though and ask the owner if he was having a sale (like I didn’t know?) and if there was something about getting 25% more off if it rains. He said, it wasn’t 25% more, it was a total of 25% off. I wish I would have known this earlier because I’m betting that I burnt up way more than I was going to save on those plants in gas just trying to beat the rain. I did find a few things to put by the Roadhouse and when I got home I put them in a very good spot, which means far away from Rion. And we never did get any rain at home that day.
Then this afternoon Daryl and I did something fun, we were asked to join a muscle car cruise. Since we never did this before, we thought we’d give it a try. I’m sure I wrote about this before, but when you drive a muscle car, there is some rule that says it can’t be dusty or dirty when you are going to drive it. So before you go anywhere, it has to get washed and dried and then a good look over. Well, this is exactly what we had to do before we met everyone in town, and I must say that the car did look good. There was around 30 cars that went on this cruise and we ended up going to 7 (?) different towns. And even though I’ve lived all my life around this area, there was a road and a town that I had never been at before today. We met a couple of other groups of people driving collector cars on some of the highways this afternoon and it’s so funny because when you meet them everyone waves as if it’s some secret club that they all belong to. And when you’re waving to the other people in their cars, it also seems that everyone has this kind of cock eyed smirk on their face. It looks like everything is just right in the world at that moment. To be honest I’m thinking it’s a guy thing. But it was fun to see everyone so proud of their cars and then just having the best time checking out each other’s cars. We had to leave before the party that they were going to have later tonight started because we wanted to go to the high school baseball tournament game and needed to get going. But when I asked Daryl if this was something that he liked and if he would do another cruise, he said that he probably would. Some of the guys were talking about driving up on a weekend to Wisconsin in the fall and I hope that they will put together that ride because I bet it would be really a pretty drive.
Now tomorrow we need to get a good bike ride in because we need the practice. It’s supposed to be really hot, with the temperatures in the mid 90’s. This isn’t going to do anyone’s corn any good without getting the rain that we needed. And to be honest there are some fields that are way past having any rain save them. They are just looking pretty sad. But a bike ride will be fun and hopefully we can put together something that we can meet up with my brother so we can all ride together. We always have a good time when that happens.
