Oh yes we have trouble!

Yes we have trouble on our farm and it has to deal with our cows. I put the plants that I bought yesterday waaaayyyyyyyy away from the fence thinking that there is absolutely no way that anyone can get them. Well, I had that thought until this morning. When I was doing the chores, I saw that I was missing one of my day lilies. So that was a little weird. Then I noticed that someone got a hold of my fine line buckthorn bush and THEN I saw my red pine cone pine tree. Yea, not happy at all. Well I found everything but the lily bush and I didn’t really care about that. When I showed Daryl that they got into them, there was no way that we could figure out how they could have managed it. The only way is if they sent the little cow (Stormy) in under the fence and he pulled them out. I don’t really think this is what happened – but like I said it was unbelievable that they were able to get them. Now I needed to get down to business and stop this once and for all! I checked out if we had any leftover chicken wire in the coop and we did. So once I got it all flattened and measured to the length that I needed, Daryl and I nailed it up to see if this would keep them out. When we were in the house later tonight,  all of a sudden I could see the cows going through the pasture and I knew exactly where they were going. Yup, they were going to see what other ‘new’ plants they could devour. But they had to stop short and just stood there, not knowing what was going on with the new fence up. They weren’t able to get to the plants anymore and even though I was pretty mad at them,  I was feeling a little bad for them at the same time. So I went and cut up an apple into 8 pieces and headed out to see if they would want it. I thought I was going to die laughing! Once they all had a taste of what I had, I moved to the cow yard to get them away from the plants. When I called them to get some more, they all took off running like they were dogs chasing cars or something. It was just too funny. When Rion runs, he tilts his head to the side and just comes barreling to you. I have to be careful, otherwise I’m a little worried that he might not stop sometime. Rion is the only one who’ll eat out of my hand, but I’m going to work on the others this week. I told Daryl about it and told him that I wanted to show him tomorrow how funny it looks. He just smiled and then asked again what I was feeding them. When I said the apples in the kitchen, he was said he was going to eat that apple later tonight. I told him that there was one left and he wanted it, he better eat it or it might just be gone tomorrow when he got home.  Check out the pictures below what those cows did to my plants.

Spoiled Baby trying to get another test of my poor little tree

Bad... this was a tree that the guy at the nursery says grows really slow. Now it's about half the size it started out as yesterday and missing some branches.

Worse... can you even tell that it was a plant that was about 5 feet tall? It's about 2 feet now.

They were trying to figure out just what is going on with this new fence

I also went to a garage sale and found these two chicken feeders. I think the guy at the garage sale never had a sale before. The reason is because I asked him how much the feeders were, he said $5 each. And you know when you’re standing there looking at them thinking if you really do need them or not, all of a sudden he says… ‘Well, $5 for both’. OK. But now I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them, but I think they’re kind of cool and I’m sure I’ll find a home somewhere for them.
