Talking with Kyle tonight

Whew! Kyle made it back to Canada. He was able to spend the last couple of days in New Jersey and New York which would be really cool. He said that the fireworks were awesome in New York, but it was really hot. 110 degrees in the city. Now that’s way too hot for me. He said he didn’t get sick, but he did get pretty hot and is still not feeling well. But both the cat and him were in Canada with Allison tonight so I’m hoping that he’ll feel better soon. We did have a weird experience today with him though. I was home and the phone rang. No big deal, I answered it. I didn’t really catch who it was and after about a dozen questions about Kyle, they wanted to know if the car that Kyle was driving was his. What? I asked again who this was and the reply back was really snotty and kind of mean, ‘The border police’. OK. When I told him that the car was Kyle’s, this guy said that’s all he needed and he hung up. Well first I was mad that this guy was such a creep, then I got scared. I thought maybe it wasn’t the police and someone was going to take the car and harm Kyle. I tried to call Kyle, but his phone was off. So I called Allison and she was going to call the border to find out what was going on. But in the mean time, Kyle called. Thank Goodness! The problem at the border was that Kyle’s passport book is so full that he had to have additional papers added to it. This must have raised a flag with the border and they wanted to really check him out. He said that they made him stay there for an hour and a half when they completely inspected his car with dogs and then they asked Kyle a bunch of questions. I’m sure that it did look funny with all his passport stamps, and they were only doing their job. But really? Kyle was so tired and sick when we talked to him tonight. And for me? I almost made myself sick worrying until Kyle called to say that he was alright.

I guess we’ll chalk this one up as another new experience. But hopefully, it’ll be the first and the last time! Next time I think we’ll have him fly home instead.
