Celebrating report cards

We used to pay the boys $$ for good grades on their report cards, but then it just got way too expensive (which is really a good problem to have). So we thought about what we should do instead, and then we came up with the idea that we should go out for supper and celebrate! So for the longest time that’s exactly what we’ve been doing. Now I know that it might not be the same as getting the money, but this was a lot cheaper than what we’ve been doing.  If we don’t go out for supper right away after the report cards come out, it always seems like we’re trying to hurry up and get there before the next report card is in the mail. So tonight was the night to go for William’s last report card from high school.  We always go to the same place, and it’s always a good time. It’s a local restaurant, and when you’re in there you really know at least half (or usually more) the people that are also eating there. Tonight was a perfect example of a local restaurant in our area. When Daryl was paying the bill, the owner told him that his brother was in the night before for supper, and his nephew ate dinner there that day.  Another example of how cool this restaurant is, was one time a large group of people from our plant in Wisconsin was at our plant, and they went out for supper at this restaurant. After what sounded like quite a bit of celebrating and then everyone had large meals – this group of 8 or 10 was going to pay for their bill. As they went up to pay their bill, they found out real fast that this place didn’t take credit cards at the time. They tried to pool their money, but when you travel for business, you usually don’t have a lot of cash with you. The owner said that this wasn’t a problem and he would just mail them the bill. Now you can about imagine how fast this story traveled in the corporate office in Wisconsin. No one could believe it! They just couldn’t see that the owner would trust this group to pay, and they thought how cool that really was.  And what a good plan it turned out to be, because when anyone traveled to our plant – they just had to go see this restaurant that everyone was talking about, and the one group that started all the talk came back to our plant many times, and always had to eat at what soon became their most favorite restaurant. I guess it just shows that being nice did pay off!

Good food and good company

William and I went out car shopping because he’ll be needing a car when the kids leave for Canada. We did find one that he might like, but I would like Daryl to check it out. While we were out looking at cars, Kyle and Ali took the truck and went to a local meat locker to buy some things for her parents, and then took the cat to the vet to get his shots and a certified animal paper of some sort to get this cat across the border. I’m just hoping that this all works for them to bring it to Canada because it would sure be bad to leave him standing  on the border homeless.

I also took another picture of our dogs. Now I’m sure you’re thinking that you’ve seen just about every picture that could possibly be taken of these dogs… but I don’t think you’ve seen this one. I was worried when I put the seat cushions on the outside furniture because of all the drama that we had last year with the dogs. But so far, so good. They seem to like to just lay on the couches and take naps.

These dogs just LOVE the couches now!

We also took some pictures tonight of our family. After I looked at them, the ones that I like the best are the ones in front of the Roadhouse. I think Daryl’s dad would just shake his head if we told him we took family pictures in front of his hog barn. I even catch myself thinking that it’s kind of crazy.

Daryl and I just hanging out when we got back from going out for supper

A card game was in the schedule after we ate supper, but too much other stuff going on. We had a bonfire and then the kids kept packing and William was hanging out with his girlfriend. I guess Daryl and I will have to take the boys on in a card game at the Kuehner reunion in June.
