As you can tell by now the weather in Iowa gets a little crazy. Someone said that if you don’t like how the weather is, just wait a couple of hours and it’ll be something different. I think they hit it right on the nose on that statement! But today’s weather was almost perfect. It even was on the chilly side. But that didn’t stop William from picking rock. He started to pick rock at 8:30 in the morning and got home late last night. I wish I would have taken a picture of him because you would have just died if you saw it. It looked like on the movies when they show the men coming out from the coal mines. He was black dirt from head to toe. And he looked just as tired as they show those miners also!
William and Allison started to get stuff organized because they head back to Canada on Friday morning, and I spent part of the day mowing lawn. It ‘s amazing how fast that the lawn grows in May/June in Iowa. I also checked on why the cows were so quiet today. It looks like Daryl gave them a fresh bale of hay last night. They have been in ‘jail’ these last couple of days. They got out during the night the other day and our neighbor called early in the morning to say that they were out walking around. Since they are so tame, it was probably the easiest to put them in. We stood with a large 5 gallon pail and called for them to come home. They looked a little silly running down the road, but guess what? It worked. But like I said, now they’re in jail for a couple of days.
Allison has never been to an Amish community before, and I needed a few things from their bulk store – so we did a quick trip. There were not too many of the farmers in the field, but there were a lot of women in their gardens. It made me think that I better stay in front of my weeds this year in our garden. If you just let it slip a little, you can get yourself in a lot of trouble .. and fast!
After the Amish, we went to a local winery for pick up some wine and then back to our house to get ready for supper.
We had a big supper tonight because we haven’t been all together to eat for a couple of days now. So we had turkey roast, gravy, cheesy potatoes, corn on the cob, watermelon, fresh vegetables, strawberry fluff, and hot apple dumplings. We were definitely full and happy at the end of that meal. William took a hot shower and Daryl got cleaned up to head to music practice. They have a show coming up in a couple of weeks that they are practicing for. We ended the night watching home movies to show Allison and Kyle when he was little. These are some of the films that I had transferred over earlier this spring and it was fun to watch them with the kids.
I took a picture of Apollo sitting on our porch later this afternoon. I think he’s smiling don’t you?
