The first big event is that it’s Daryl’s birthday today. I wanted to surprise him with his gift and I think I did! I’ve been asking him to guess what it was, but when we showed him his gift – he was surprised. Yup, he didn’t see the front part of a tractor coming. He said he must be 55 now, because he’s getting tractor parts. Not sure what the age has to do with it… but he is 55 now. He’s been working on his tractor, and I knew that he wouldn’t buy this for himself, so the boys and I got him it. I went to a couple of different dealers before I found one. They stopped making the front ends to his White tractor quite awhile ago, so you have to see if there’s a used one around. Luckily there was one just about 15 miles from our house! When Daryl and William filled up the planter and took it over to the other farm tonight – he took the White tractor. Now he’ll have to bring the tractor home to put this piece on. It should fit because I took down all the information before I started looking. And to be safe when I got home, I asked Kyle to hold it up to the tractor to see if it’ll fit. I laughed when I got home from the dealer because when were dealing on the price, I’ve watched enough of the American Pickers on the television to know that everything can be negotiated. And we sure did some negotiating. When I asked Daryl how much he thought we paid for it, and then I told him how much it did cost, he said that we got a really good deal. Whew! I really didn’t know if it was a good deal or not, because this was my first front end of a tractor that I’ve ever bought 🙂
The second big even in our house actually happened yesterday. Daryl took Kyle’s Corsica to the junk dealer. We didn’t want to get rid of it before Kyle came home, and we wanted to have it gone before he left again. With no brakes in it, and some big piece of metal hanging down underneath – Daryl pumped up the back two tires and off he went to the dealer. William followed him, just in case. The got some miles down the road and pumped the tires up again and then they continued on their mission. Daryl said that there was a skunk on the road and he didn’t think too much of it, and ran over it. Well, the metal piece that was hanging down under the car caught on the skunk and he said when he looked back – it rolled the skunk, and it didn’t land in the same spot it started out at. But the car made it there, and I’m kind of sad for it. It was a good car for Kyle and now it’s just scrap metal.
It got really cold last night, and this morning there was frost on the windshields of the cars. I didn’t get the greenhouse fixed last night, and I was worried that my new flowers were froze. I think they were OK, so I spent a good part of today filling up some outside planters and also planting flowers under the windmill. Now if it gets cold again, I’ll just cover them up. Kyle and I also mowed lawn all afternoon. Man, there sure is a lot of grass on our farm! I didn’t do any of the trimming around the buildings, I don’t think you should have to do that every time you mow, do you?
When I got home last night from a wake, I could hear the dogs barking again in the barn. That usually means one thing – another little kitty needs help. When I went into the barn there was this little cold and wet (wet because the dogs I think were slobbing on her) little orange kitty. I took her into the house thinking that she might not make it through the night. But when I wrapped her up in a thick towel, she started to purr and I thought that she might just be OK. Well this morning she was doing really well, and now she’s been in the house ever since. Kyle said that he was thinking he might want to take this kitty to Canada with him. I’m thinking, let’s see if it lives for another week.
As for tonight – we’re planning on a good game of cards and some birthday cake with ice cream on it. It’s a good way to end any day, much less a Birthday!
