Still here after the wind blew through

Wow, did some crazy winds blow through here the last couple of days. When Daryl and Kyle came home from Nebraska, they said they drove through some pretty bad weather – and it turned out that the bad weather they were talking about was 122 tornadoes reported around the tri-state area. It seemed the bad weather than followed them to Iowa, because we were under a tornado watch pretty much all weekend. We never did have any tornadoes at our farm, but we sure had some wind! But we were lucky because the only thing that I could see that happened here was that it took some of the greenhouse panels off, and only God knows where they landed. I took off two before they also flew away, and I’m still looking for the front panel. If I can’t find it, I’ve got some plexiglass in the basement that I can cut to size. I’m just hoping that it doesn’t get too cold until I get it fixed.

Kyle and I went to town yesterday to get him a temporary phone for when he drives back to Canada. It’s funny that we used to drive all around the country without any phones, but now I don’t like it if the kids get in the car for a short errand without one. But for Kyle, he’s going to be driving through Chicago and up to Canada and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be worrying about him until he gets there. Then both him and his girlfriend will be driving back in early May for William’s graduation. More worrying….   But when we were in town, we were talking about places that they could go and check out when they were home. I showed him the fish hatchery and then across the road is the eagles next. Now I knew that this eagle nest in Decorah was popular, but I had no idea just how many people came to see it! There were people all over, and some people were just sitting on benches watching the birds. Now the only part of watching these birds that you could see, was maybe the top part of one of them. The people on the benches looked like they were just sitting and staring off into the trees. I’m sure there’s some logic to all of this – but for me, I’m thinking this was maybe the only time I’ll be visiting these birds.

I’ve got a triple batch of banana bread in the oven. I bought some really nice bananas the other day, and no one ate any of them. So the bananas were looking pretty bad, and that means banana bread time. I just wanted to get them in the oven, so I made a triple batch and put it in a cake pan. It worked. I always have trouble with middle getting done, but I’m thinking that I won’t have any trouble with that when I bake it in this type of pan. Now I just need to find someone to eat it. I think I’ll send it with William tomorrow for school.

Update on our little kitties. You know when you walk into a room and think – it’s time for those little kitties to go outside? Well that’s what happened this afternoon. The room was starting to get a funny smell. And when I say funny, I don’t mean like.. ha ha funny. More like, hummmm.   So Kyle and I put them up in the loft of the barn and I didn’t even get to the house when Kyle said that one fell down already. So back to the barn to find the kitty and I put her upstairs in the barn again. We’re missing some of the floor in spots, so you would think they would know better not to go to those spots, wouldn’t you? Well, a couple of those little kitties used up some of their nine lives and now I’m just hoping that they don’t fall down again. Our dogs really hate little kitties and they’ll be needing all the luck they can have not to get in worse trouble if the dogs catch them!
