Hurry and Wait…

Today was the Solo & Ensemble contest in one of the local schools and William wasn’t sure what time he was supposed to perform. It wasn’t such a big deal, and with Daryl and Kyle in Nebraska for Kyle’s Chinese test – I had planned on going to the contest. William thought that he was scheduled for early afternoon, so I didn’t think too much of it this morning. Then just after I got chores done, he texted me to say that he was his first contest was in about an hour. To get to the school, it takes at least 45 minutes and at this point I knew that I had to make a decision, just how bad I needed a shower. I took a bath when I got home from a birthday party late last night, so I knew that I might be able to get by. But my hair is too short to do the ‘smell’ test and I thought since I would be at the school all day, I better quick take a shower. I wanted to get to the school early just in case the schedule changed and I quick threw on some clothes, mascara, and some shoes and left. There is one very helpful thing that is in every car that gets overlooked, and this is the air vents. They work really well to dry your hair if you’re in a hurry. You have to make sure that you don’t put it too hot, otherwise when you get to where you are going you’re face is really red looking. So low temperature works the best. By the time that I got to the school, my hair was dry and his first contest was rescheduled for 3 hours later. So all there was to do was to wait. Before the day was over, William was in more contests throughout the day, and in between them you went to the other kids contests or you waited. There was one part when I had a little bit more time, so I went to the Montauk Mansion (home of William Larrabee, Iowa’s 12th Governor). The mansion was built in 1874, and there was no one on the property but me. Kind of odd. But with the house not open, I walked around for awhile and then headed back to the school. When the day was over, I don’t know I was so tired, because I sure didn’t work very hard at all today! Good day though, and I sure enjoyed listening to the kids.

Daryl and Kyle made it home from Nebraska tonight. We saw on the news tonight that some parts of Nebraska did have bad weather with tornadoes and hail. The only bad weather that they had was a lot of rain. They said that they had to drive 50 mph on the interstate and in some spots the water was on the highway so deep that it completely covered the bottom of underneath the car.

When I locked up the dogs tonight, Apollo was in the barn already and just barking and barking. This can only mean that he cornered a cat again. William checked on it before he left tonight and said that there were little kitties that were cornered. So after I got the flashlight, and went out to the barn to investigate – he was right. There were three kitties in the cow pen and scared to death. There was one really sassy one and just stood there just daring the dogs to get closer. So tonight, they’re all in the house in a laundry basket. I warmed up potatoes with ham gravy and milk. They seemed hungry, and I’m just hoping they all are in the basket tomorrow morning.
