I needed to run some errands this morning, and the errands eventually took me to town. So when I was driving this morning, I saw something that I absolutely never saw before. The time was around 10:30 am and what I saw was a red fox just running in the ditch beside me in the daylight. The only time anything that would come close to seeing a fox up close was when we were kids, someone hit a fox on our gravel road and it wasn’t dead. So we stopped and tried to help it. But do you know how mad a fox gets when it’s been hit by a car and you try to pick it up to save it? Let me just say.. Pretty Mad! It never bit us, but man it was really close. So today this fox was running in the ditch beside the highway, and I just had to pull off the road to see if my eyes were seeing correctly. There shouldn’t be any fox running in the daylight and when I was sitting on the shoulder of the highway, all of a sudden in the rear view mirror I could see this fox coming up towards my way. Now I know that I say that I have a camera with me at all times, and today I need to change that sentence. ‘Usually’ I have a camera with me. And today was one of the days that I didn’t have one. But as the fox ran up to where I was sitting, he stopped and looked at me, and I thought to myself ‘you poor fox’. I think I might have even said it out loud to be honest. My first instinct was to get out of the car and see if it was hurt or something. But the more that I thought of it, and when I looked at the fox – I knew that I better not get out of the car. He looked a little thin haired on his coat and his tail only had about 1/3 the amount of hair that it should have. By this time I thought that I really didn’t have time to get rabies from some lost fox running around and I stayed in the car. He took off running and ran in a grove by someone’s farm that was nearby. I’m sure he was sick and I thought about that poor fox all day today.
When I got all my running around done for the day, I started to paint inside the Roadhouse again. I bought the paint from my local hardware store (shocked aren’t you!) and started to paint. When I first started painting I thought that it felt good to paint again, but then as the time went by – I got over that feeling pretty darn fast. The cement was poured by Daryl and his dad and I’m sure they never thought when they were building the farrowing house, that someday it was going to get painted. The cement is really not too bad to paint, but there are some rough spots that are taking a little bit more time. The rough spots are kind of like when you make a cake and when you flip it, some of it sticks in the pan. So you take the frosting and put more in the rough spots, just trying to fill in the cracks. It eventually looks nice, just time consuming. There were a couple of those spots today, but I got them done today along with around half of the foundation. But tomorrow I want to finish it up so we can pick up our carpeting that came in today. Getting closer and closer to being done…
