What a great weekend!

So you know that Daryl bought himself a different corn planter yesterday,  and that was just the beginning of getting to check off a couple of things that we’ve been working on.

The next thing that was on our list for quite sometime, was tearing out the old cow yard fence and building a new one. Well, that can get checked off the list also. The cows needed to be penned off the yard, so they were happy watching the activity from the pasture. After the fence was built, Daryl and William cleaned off the floor and hauled manure into the fields. The cows got to get back to the floor, and it’s nice an clean now with a fresh big bale of hay. You hear a lot of commercials lately about having ‘happy cows’ – but I can’t believe there are any happier cows than ours today!

The next thing that we could check off the list was trying to figure out what we’re serving for William’s graduation party. We have that figured out.  We’re going with hamburgers and brats that we’ll barbecue that morning. We also have most of the menu figured out. That is such a relief! I’ve been making myself crazy trying different things that we could serve and we decided that going simple might be the best answer. I think that’s right. I’m a little nervous though, because some of my friends are so busy remodeling their houses to get ready for their graduation parties. I wasn’t planning on doing much (or anything…) to our house. I think I’m worrying too much about the outside farm buildings instead. I guess that it’s kind of like remodeling – it’s just our barns instead of our house.

OK back to this list. I also had a chance to work on the pictures that I’ve been transferring over to CD’s. I got another 300 + done again and I was happy with that amount. The hardest part of this project is to get the pictures out of the albums. You know about 20 years ago, no one knew that you had to put pictures in specific albums otherwise they’ll start to discolor and go bad. Also the old photo albums had these sticky backs and that’s where it gets a little hard and the dental floss comes in. It works, but time consuming.

Next thing to do was to work on my candy presentation project. I think I’ve got it pretty much figured out, and Daryl gave me some ideas on how to make the structure more secure. I’ve made a couple of different batches of chocolate candy today that I’m going to see if the frame works. I’m sure that I’ll have extra candy and I’ll either send it with William to school, or see if I can get rid of it in town.

Last but not least, we had a chance to talk with Kyle and Allie tonight. Everything is going good there and they were part of a music group that performed this past week. Kyle is planning on coming home in about a week and a half and we’re very excited to have him home.

We’ve got a busy week ahead of us. Daryl needs to travel for work this week for a couple of days and I plan on painting inside the Roadhouse. I want to paint some of the cement that is below the side panels to see if it works. We’ll need to know what color of flooring that we’re going to go with before this happens, so I hope we order the carpeting this week. William is involved with a Theatrical Showcase that will be performing two days, and I have a candy order that’s due. I’m glad that Daryl will be back for the show at our school and I hope that I can get more things checked off the list that just seems to continue to grow and grow.

I remember planning our kids’ graduation parties. The food was a big part of it. We made bbq from a family recipe (uses pork and beef roasts) and put it in a large roaster. Just bought bag salad from Aldi and threw a bottled dressing on it. Had a big box of tortilla chips from Rural King and a big can of the nacho cheese that we put in a crock pot to warm. There was more, but those are the things I can remember off the top of my head. Each kid had a big party out at the old lake, with quite a few people attending. It was a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Oh, and each kid had a signature quilt top at the party for the guests to sign in pigma pens. Johanna’s got finished a year later, but Nick’s isn’t quilted yet. I’m working on it! haha.
