I’m not sure if it’s mating season for peacocks, but whatever season it is ours are really showing off lately. When they want to show off – they fan their feathers and then make this clicking noise with their back feathers. Sam, the male peacock in this picture, has it figured out better than Lucky. Lucky is a white male peacock that likes the chickens and our Saint Francis statue better than the girl peacocks. I haven’t put the statue out yet this spring because it’s so embarrassing. Lucky would stand in front of our house with his fan spread and dancing around Saint Francis. I’m not sure why he ‘likes’ him so well. If someone would drive by they would wonder what kind of animals we actually have on this farm. Lucky spends his time now in front of the chicken house screaming. When a peacock screams it’s really loud. My brothers said that they can hear our peacocks when they are working in our field and our neighbors have told us that they can also hear them during the night. I think he wants the chickens to come out so he can impress them. They just look at him like he’s nuts. To be honest I might just agree with them.
The dogs were on their big hunt again this morning. They captured a frog in the gutter of the farrowing house and Reno would crawl under the crates to see if she could get it. Every time the frog would jump – so would Reno. I think she finally gave up and let the frog live.
The more that I think of it – maybe we do have some mighty strange animals here on the Kuehner farm.
