I was doing some errands today and thought that it was really cold – but when I drove by the ethanol plant, I think the steam coming from the plants showed just how cold it was. The weather forecast for tonight is to have at least 6 inches of snow and way below 0.
One of the places that I went to today was the farm store. I needed some staples for the staple gun for the chicken house. I’m missing a window for the shed, but since the window comes out in the early spring, I didn’t want to spend the money on it. If the window didn’t cost over $50 I would think differently, but since it does – stapling plastic up will work just fine. So when I was in the farm store, I found one of the workers to see if he could help me and off to the front of the store we went to get staples. We were standing in front of them and then he asked me – ‘what kind of staples were you looking for?’ I gave him a look and said that ‘I was looking for something that worked in my stapler’. Huh? He gave me a look and then said something like if I wanted this one size or this other size. I really didn’t care – just give me something that worked. I think he was trying to act that he was the stapler expert or something, but when he took one of the strings of staples out of the staple box … they didn’t work! He also broke the strip and then he couldn’t get it back into the box. I was thinking to myself that he wasn’t such an expert. But we finally found something that did work and back home I went. I used a Pepsi can recycling bag and up on the shed it went. I stapled it up inside so the chickens wouldn’t run the risk of getting caught between the plastic and the chicken wire. I’m hoping that it’ll keep it a little bit warmer and it’ll save some of the eggs from freezing.
Since I was thinking about chickens today, I called my sister to see how Walter was doing. She was nervous about taking him, but you know what? I think she really likes him. She was even talking about taking his picture. She said he was sitting in front of their house with the ducks and just hanging out. She also said when she walks into the barn in the morning he acts like he’s been up for awhile and then he starts crowing when he sees her. I’m glad he’s living there and it sounds like he made some new friends. Not only the ducks, but I think also my sister. 🙂
