Well the day started out with rain and fog outside, so I decided to see what needed to be done in the kitchen. I had some hamburger in the refrigerator that was thawing so I thought I’d make William some more beef jerky. He likes to take some with him when he goes to basketball games and since no one else was home – I made it in the basement. So now the house smelled like smoked beef. Then I wanted to make some cheesecake but found out that I didn’t have what was needed for the crust. Then I thought that I’d make some sugar cookies and after they’re crumbled I’d mix them with butter and nuts. I wasn’t sure if this was going to work or not -but cookies, butter, and pecans, it couldn’t go wrong right? Now the house was smelling better – sugar cookies. While the cookies were cooling, I wanted some caramel so I made a batch of that. Yum! It turned out really good. What’s the smell now? Warm caramels mixed in with the smell of cookies. Off to making some potato soup for supper while the caramel was cooling. Now I’ve got the cheesecake in the oven and it’s the best smell so far. It’s a vanilla cheesecake and it’s sure a good smell to end the day with!
I also washed a couple of sweaters that I picked up at a second hand store for William. Next week at school is Ugly Christmas Sweater day and the sweaters needed to be washed. He tried them on before I washed them and said that the one was really shedding. I wasn’t sure why he would have said this at the time – but I soon found out. I have a fairly new washing machine and I’m able to set the setting to ‘hand wash’. That’s what I did and when I took the sweaters out to lie them flat – I almost died! The reason is because the sweater wasn’t shedding … it was disintegrating! It literally fell apart. The odd thing is that there are huge gems glued onto the sweater and those stayed on. William is holding the sweater and it’s turned inside out so you can’t see them on the picture. But it’s a good thing that I found two different Christmas sweaters so he at least has a backup for next week.
I’m also including a picture that I took last night with my cell phone. We were driving home from a basketball game and I took the picture by sticking my hand out the window. I’ve never seen a town decoration as a menorah before, but when we were driving through Postville it was on one of the light poles. Postville has a lot of different cultures and with a large Jewish population, it wasn’t such a surprise to see it.
