Saint Albert the Great Day

If you didn’t know that today was Saint Albert the Great Day – you must not have had someone in your house named Albert! Well in my house growing up, my Dad’s name is Albert and we always were reminded by him that November 15th is a very important day. Now that I’m married and our youngest son’s middle name is Albert, he carries on the tradition that this is an important day. To give you some background on Saint Albert, he was the “teacher of everything there is to know,” and died 1280 A.D. So a long time ago right? In 1931 he was made a Saint by Pope Pius XI. The tradition that we’ve had at our house is to have homemade noodle soup as a celebration. But to be honest, I just had this at my Mom’s not too long ago, so I took some huge shrimp out of the freezer and put an orange marinade on them and was planning on grilling them later for supper. But we decided that we’d go to the local Bar/Restaurant and eat there instead. Since it’s Tuesday – that means at this bar it’s Taco Tuesday. The meal was really good and now that our bellies are full, we’ll have the shrimp tomorrow night.

I was able to get the tile completed for my sister and it turned out pretty good. I ended up delivering it to her because I was planning on stopping at some antique stores to look for something that one of our friends was hoping to buy as a Christmas gift. After I hit a couple of antique stores, I realized very soon that this was a dangerous thing for me to do. There was a lot of things that I saw that I wanted. So when I ended up at the last store for the day, I just couldn’t resist buying an old calendar from Saint Lucas and a wash basin stand. The calendar is from Theo. Klemmer Jack Sprat Store dated 1957. See… Pretty cool huh. I’m sure that I didn’t need either one, but you know how that goes. You just have to have it! Tomorrow I’ll look for a place to put the stand. I thought that I’d put it in our small bathroom, but now I’m not so sure ….. Oh well, I’ll find a place sooner or later. As for the calendar, I’m thinking that’ll be stored with some other paperwork that I have.

I’m also adding the recipe for the Breakfast Casserole that I made over the weekend. I’m including the correct measurements for it. The reason that I say that is because I got the recipe from one of my sisters and I couldn’t read the qty of milk that was needed. So I thought it was for 1 1/2 cups, but when I added only that amount it looked really dry! I called her and I thought she said 4 1/2 cups of milk. So I dumped enough in to get it really wet. In the morning she called back and said that it really is supposed to be 2 1/2 cups. OK, big difference. You know when your’e looking at something and thinking that this should work, that’s how I felt about the casserole in the morning. So I dumped some of the liquid out into the sink and left enough in the pan that I though looked right. I added the rest of the ingredients and into the oven it went. Now usually Daryl and William don’t eat breakfast casseroles, but they said this one was good. I guess the secret to a good casserole is how much of the extra stuff you dump out! (The recipe is included in the recipe tab on the top of the page)
