Weather – mid 70’s

Wow! Who would have guessed we would have had this nice of weather yet in October? Of course I’m really happy because I’m still painting… but I’m almost done with the outsides of the buildings. I spent the morning meeting with a new insurance agent going over our existing farm insurance. I want to see if there is something out there that might be a better fit for us and I think I found something that will work. I’m not sure I convinced Daryl, but it’s going to be less expensive and with a better coverage. To me that’s a win/win!

I also had a chance to paint some more on the west side of the barn. I’ve got done as much as I can, so now I’ve got to wait and have Daryl help me with the rest. I’m thinking he’s going to pick chisel plowing over the painting, but I guess we’ll see. I’m going to focus on the farrowing house until he can help me. I don’t have any idea on what kind of paint or how much I’ll need to get that inside painted. I laughed when I was painting today because our neighbors were hauling their corn stalks to their farms and they were driving past our place to move them. At first the dogs were up and chasing them as they went by, then only Reno would chase them with Apollo laying on the front porch. Finally after the neighbors made tons of trips back and forth, both dogs gave up and just left them drive by and didn’t even want to give them another look. And for our dogs not to chase the tractors, that’s a big deal.

Can you tell how high I painted today?

I dug up the rest of the onions tonight. They really didn’t turn out as big as they should have been, but they aren’t too bad. I think tomorrow I’m going to clean them up and then dice them up to put in the freezer. I can pull them out this winter for chili or whatever I’m cooking that’ll need onions. I also need to clean up the garden sometime. It’s such a yucky job, you know pulling out the dead tomato plants, taking the wire cages and putting them away, and pulling up all the weeds that came in. It’s not a hard job, just time consuming.

Daryl moved the bale of stalks into the shed for the cows. Rion really likes it and was getting in the way when Daryl was putting it in the shed. Tonight’s supposed to be really cold and so is tomorrow. I’m thinking I’ll know where the cows will be for awhile.

Getting ready for the cold weather coming
