No Sunday naps today

It was a beautiful day today and Daryl had such good luck in the field. He was able to get all the beans out and was happy with how they yielded. When I called him if he wanted me to bring some supper out in the field, that’s when he said that he was done with the beans and was coming home to switch the heads on the combine. He needed the corn head now instead of the bean head. So he came home just long enough to switch and grab some supper and back he went. He wanted to open the field (take the first rounds out) of the corn field. The weather is supposed to be really nice and could get into the 80’s by mid week. The corn will really dry by then. All the farmers were busy today. Some were combining beans, combining corn, making corn stalks for their cattle, and some were even cutting hay. Daryl said that he was hoping to cut our hay after he takes the corn out. If he does get another hay crop, that would make 4 cuttings. He said something about once you get a frost in the fall it’s safe to cut hay again. I’m not sure if this is a scientific thing or a farmers story – but it’s the story he just told me.

Changing heads on the combine tonight

I’ve been worried about our evergreen trees. When you look at them, they have a lot of dead branches on them. And it’s not just one or two but all of the trees. So the last couple of days I’ve been checking out other people’s groves to see how their trees look. A lot of others look just like ours. I’ve done some research on it on the web and there is a whole lot of reasons why this would happen. But the one reason that I think must have been the cause is that they said wind would do this. They said not to worry and the trees will rebuild themselves next year. I sure hope so!

Worried about our evergreen trees

Tonight’s dessert for supper is Apple Dumplings. With all our apples, I wanted to find something that was easy and good and this recipe fits both of those. You use crescent rolls and mountain dew to make it. Well OK you also have some butter and sugar with a little cinnamon to sweeten it up. But it went well at our house and I think I’ll make them again. I’ll update this recipe and also the cheesecake recipe from last night sometime this week.
