Tight quarters

I spent the afternoon painting in between the two cattle sheds today. Now Daryl said that it’s hard to paint . .  but really? How hard could it be? Well I found out just what he was talking about when I was painting it. I took a picture of how narrow it is but I don’t think you can get the idea of it in the picture. The ground was so uneven in the alley that I had to dig trenches in the dirt to get the ladder somewhat level. Then I extended the ladder and hooked it on the pitch of the roof so at least one side would catch. I figured there was no way that it could fall. Only once did I get really nervous when I was on it because it kept leaning over and I knew if I did fall and how I was holding the paint pail, I would for sure break my arm. Not cool because I’m not done with all the buildings yet.  So I did have to move it that time. To say how narrow it was, when I finally got the ladder put up,  I couldn’t get on it. I put my feet on the step sideways and then used my arms to pull myself up the first couple of steps. You had to do this pretty much every time and I thinking that I’ll be sore tomorrow because I could feel it both in my arms and legs this afternoon. If this doesn’t sound hard, I must not be writing it very well. It was hard. Daryl wanted me to wait and do these sides last but I wanted to get this shed done before I went to paint the barn. So when I was climbing the ladder today you used your backside on the wall behind you to stable yourself and when I pulled myself up to the next step I kept having the wall catch on my shorts. OK, now this really wasn’t a pretty situation. The cows stood at the end of the fence just staring at me and I couldn’t blame them. But I finally did get the side painted and I finished off paint pail #90  today. Tomorrow I’ll have to start on the barn because I’ll need the paint to dry on the one side of the cattle shed before I paint the other side. Otherwise I’ll really be full of paint!

Narrow space for painting today

Daryl had to fix something on the combine and then was going to shell corn for awhile. I asked him if he needed help and he said he didn’t. He also hasn’t called me while he’s been out in the field, which is a good sign because his fix must have worked.  He’s hoping to be able to shell all week and the weather looks like it’ll cooperate. Dessert for tonight was chocolate chip cookies.
