Finally Daryl was able to get into the field tonight to plant corn. And it’s not only Daryl in the field – I think the whole county is either working up the ground or planting corn. There’s talk about rain in the forecast so everybody is trying to get as much done in case the weather man is right. As I took a quick picture of Daryl filling up the planter it seems like I just took one like this not that long ago. But it was actually a year ago! It’s crazy when you think to yourself if winter will ever end and then when spring is here you kind of forget how long it actually was. So I helped Daryl just a little bit to get ready and soon he was out in the field for the rest of the night. As for me, I’m on chore duty for the cows and chickens. This job really isn’t too bad so I don’t mind. I’m also trying to train our dogs not to chase cars and trucks on the road. Now Reno is very naughty and has always done this, but I don’t want her to teach Kaiser. So after work tonight I bought a shock collar. It has all these different settings so when the first truck went past – of course off she went. I pushed the lowest button for a shock – nothing… and she was off like a bullet to try to catch the truck. So I kept going up the remote and then I found one that really made a difference! She yelped and looked around like what in the heck was that!! I’m not that much into a shock collar, but then I’m also really not into having her or Kaiser get hit on the road either. By the end of the night when someone would go by she would look around like what ever is doing this, I better stay put! Good girl.
My picture of the night is a birds nest that’s in our apple tree behind the house. Now these eggs are much safer than the one that I found last night in the field!
it’s a tough choice about using that shock collar or not. i have a real hard time walking my dog, ivy, because she pulls so hard that i can’t control her. i have to put a pinch collar on her. it looks absolutely medieval and i hate using it, but until she learns not to pull so hard, it’s what i have to do. i’ve had people say mean things to me about using it, but they don’t realize it’s use this or don’t walk her – just let her run in the fenced back yard. and really, it will only pinch her when she pulls real hard, the rest of the time it’s slack on her neck and does nothing. even the vet’s office said it was the best choice in our situation. good luck training reno and kaiser.
