Grocery store the night before Thanksgiving

Tonight I needed to pick up some stuff, so I decided to wait and get my Thanksgiving groceries while I was in town. Man, that was a mistake! The main thing that I needed was some shredded potatoes and I thought to myself, no big deal right? I’ll get in and then get right back out of the grocery store. When I stepped into the store I knew that I was probably wrong with that assumption. There was literally a couple of hundred people in the store and looking pretty frantic. So I put my head down, brought my shoulders up a little, and joined them in the hunt. When I started to get a little frantic on where in the world these potatoes were, I looked around and just had to laugh. We literally looked like we were on bumper cars and everyone was just going around in circles. No one really made eye contact but had this weird look on their faces like they were on some type of a mission or something. It really was kind of funny! So I’m right in the middle of this and acting pretty much exactly the same as the others… and then I find the frozen section of the store. But I have to admit when I got there  I was a little confused and just had this dumb look on my face as I’m standing in front of the freezer case. I couldn’t seem to find the shredded potatoes. OK, sweet potato fries, french fries, curly fries, seasoned fries, onion rings, empty space, tater tots. Weird. So once more… sweet potato fries, french fries, curly fries, seasoned fries, onion rings, empty space, tater tots. Hum. Out comes the glasses and as I’m squinting and making a scrunched up face (that really never helps does it?)I read the small print of the ’empty’ space. You guessed it. Shredded Potatoes. 20131127_173639_resized (2)There must be a lot of people eating shredded potatoes this Thanksgiving. As I’m standing there I could see a lady beside me stopping for only about a minute and then she grabbed her phone, made a phone call, and then she was gone. But I really didn’t want to go to another grocery store tonight because I just wanted to get home. So I grabbed my purse, slung it behind me, and decided to go in. I thought that maybe there was some mixed up in the cooler. SCORE! there were a couple of bags kind of pushed to the back of those tater tots! As I was grabbing them and putting them in my cart, I swear it was almost  like winning the lottery. I was never so happy and proud of being the person to actually find some shredded potatoes. So with a smug look on my face and as I’m rejoining the rest of the group pushing my grocery cart, I caught the next shopper standing exactly where I was standing. I could just imagine what was going through her head – sweet potato fries, french fries, curly fries, seasoned fries, onion rings, empty space, tater tots.
