If you know your Saints Celebrations, you might know that on November 15th is Saint Albert the Great Day. The reason that there was a day named after Albertus Magnus was because he was known to be one of the Church’s greatest intellects. He was among the first and greatest of the natural scientists, gaining a reputation for expertise in biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geography, metaphysics, and mathematics. He was also very learned in biblical studies and theology. OK, so about now you’re wondering why in the world are you getting a history lesson right? Well, when your Dad’s name is Albert, you soon learn that this is an important day in the calendar year. Makes more sense now doesn’t it? Not only did we talk about this day growing up, but with our second son’s middle name Albert, we also talk about November 15th in our home.
When Daryl found out that he was going to have heart surgery, it originally was set for November 14th. OK, I guess. But when it got moved to November 15th, I liked the day so much better. I’m thinking as I’m getting older that I’m getting superstitious, and if he had it on St. Albert the Great day, great! The surgery went well and after a long 1 1/2 days in ICU, Daryl was able to get out into regular room yesterday and is feeling so much better. We’re hoping that he’ll get home early next week to recover and I’ll find out more today on that when I see the Doctors.
As for now, I’m just glad that it’s over, and now the only thing left to do is to heal. I guess there’s two reasons now to celebrate November 15th!
