Fort Atkinson Wednesday Night Band Concert

William and I went to visit my Mom tonight and while we were in the area, I wanted to head over to Fort Atkinson to check out the Band Concert that they hold on Wednesday nights. I kind of thought it would be cool, but it was REALLY something to see! I convinced William to go with me if I would buy him a malt from the Moo Mobile, so off we went. As we pulled up to the town it really didn’t look like there was too many people there, but I parked the car anyway and walked down the street. As I turned the corner, Holy Smokes! There were people in lawn chairs on one side of the street and others  just hanging out listening to the music.20130814_204753_resized Now you have to remember that this is a little town of about 350 people and all the people there pretty much knew each other. As I was standing in line to get a Raspberry and a Chocolate malt, I found out that they have been having guests come and play on Wednesday nights since 1898. That’s 115 years! I kind of felt bad that I hadn’t come to this before. I also learned while I was in the ice cream line, that people from all over come to play with the band. Some of the people drive for over an hour just to get a chair on the portable band platform. And tonight, they even ran out of room, so they had to add extra seating for the musicians. When I asked where they get their music from, I was told that they play a little bit of everything from Patriotic music to Polka’s. They even had a Music Composer that liked to play with them write specific music only for this community band. Now just how cool is that?  And to top off the night, when I finally made it up to the malt window and ordered our two malts, I found out that they were 50 cents each. This was the last concert of the year, but I definitely want to come back again next year!
