On the Friday before I left for the bike ride, Daryl and I headed to Spillville to the Inwood Ballroom. The reason that we were going there was because the singing group that he belongs to, Fusion, was celebrating 30 years of singing together. If you just stop and think about that, it’s quite amazing isn’t it? It’s still pretty much all the same group of people that they started with, who have gone to each other’s weddings, had kids, seen those children grow up and some of them now are starting their own families. And still, in all those crazy busy times that come along with the early (and later) years of your life, they found time for each other to get together usually once a week to share some laughs and sing. Now I’m not a singer by any means, and to say how bad I really am, when I was in school there were around 140+ kids in our class and the choir director had to pick two kids out because there wasn’t enough spots available. Yea, you guessed it, both myself and another one of my friends didn’t make Jr High choir. Pretty sad I must say. So for me to understand the commitment to get together and practice and perform at functions, it’s just amazing. But once you watch the group and see how much fun they all have and how much they enjoy each other’s company, you understand why they have been friends for such a long time and are celebrating 30 years of singing together. Congratulations!
