If you remember before we left for New York, the hammer mill broke when Daryl was unloading the feed for the cows. I was one of those days when just about everything broke when you looked at it wrong, and of course it’s also when you’re in a hurry. Even though our mill is quite old, it still is a good mill and really hasn’t given us much trouble in the past. But Daryl found out when he was trying to get the part to fix it, that it was going to be harder to find the part that we were thinking it was going to be. He did eventually find a dealer that would order the part and of course it seems like if you have older machinery at your farm, the ‘special’ order parts always come with a pretty good price tag. But we were happy that they could get the part, and Daryl picked it up the other day. The part that was broke was under the equipment and in one of the hardest to reach spots. Kyle ended up helping to compress the coil that was hooked on the part, and eventually it was put back together again. When this originally broke, it kind of messed up the power take off, and I think Daryl was going to have to take that into town to get that fixed. Daryl still talks about that afternoon when this all happened. He said if he wouldn’t have quit planting beans, he would have been done with the field work and the mill never would have gotten broke. I guess it was just one of those days.
