Storm blew through Friday night

I was laying in bed Friday night and around 11:30 I could hear the cows mooing. Now they never make any noise during the night so I thought that it was kind of odd. I get out of bed and get out the trusty spot light and headed to the barn. The only thing that I saw the out of place was Reno our dog. She was coming from the back of the barn and looking pretty guilty. She had no business being back there and my guess was that she was making the cows upset. But as I headed back to the house I noticed that there was lightening in the north. I stayed outside for awhile and it seemed to get worse as I was watching. But we didn’t hear of any storms at the time, so I headed back upstairs and went back to bed. When Daryl came upstairs, I said that it seemed like it was either going to storm or hail. After we laid in bed for awhile and thought about it, Daryl got up and went downstairs and outside he went. He started to put the vehicles into the farrowing house. The four wheeler with a wagon was already in there, but then he put his truck, William’s car, and then William’s girlfriends car all inside also. It sure is nice to have someplace to put the cars just in case it storms. It never did storm at our house, but on the TV they were saying that people were getting 80 mph side wind and hail. That is not what you want right now! We waited on the porch swing while the storm was brewing and started to talk about storms when we were kids. Daryl told kind of a cool story. He said when it was storming, his Mom would light a holy candle and burn it. It worked for them for many years – maybe I should see about finding one for us.

The weather was perfect and Daryl worked on the barn again. He has all the wood replaced on the south side that needed it and both doors also fixed. Then he replaced the wood that needed it on the west side and is just finishing up the doors. This is the first time that he is building barn doors by himself and he’s doing a really good job. They even look right!  He is sure going to town on this project and now it’s up to me to get my part done. He said that he used to spray paint a lot when he was a kid, so yesterday he bought a spray painter that hooks up to the air compressor. I’m not sure on how successful I’ll be with it, so I’m going to practice on the machine shed where no one will see if I stink at it!
