If you have never had chickens, you might not know that they go through something that’s called molting. It happens once a year and for layer chickens, they stop laying eggs until the molting is done and even for a couple of months after it. What they do is that they loose most, or all of their feathers and grow in new ones. The first time that I saw a chicken that was molting, I really thought that there was something wrong with it. But it’s a natural thing that all chickens go through to replace their feathers. It really isn’t a good look for most chickens and I took a picture of one that I saw that really lost a lot of feathers. It’s just a good thing that the weather has been kind of warm lately, that’s all I can say.
