Fun weekend with the boys

We were lucky this past weekend to have both boys home! Kyle flew home late Friday night from New York and William drove up from Ames. The reason that Kyle came home was because some friends of ours daughter got married this past weekend and Kyle was also friends with the bride. But the really cool thing was that Kyle sang for the wedding. This was the first wedding that Kyle sang for, and let me just say that he did an awesome job! I know that I probably am a little bit biased on this, but it was so cool. There was only three songs and I wish that they would have sang more.

So with Kyle home, William was also able to come home for a couple of days. I’m sure that you’ve also been in the situation where you tried to cram everything in when you get a chance and that’s what we did this weekend. I wanted to take our family Christmas photo as a family again this year. Last year Kyle was in Rome, and even though the Christmas card looked OK with individual pictures,  it just wasn’t the same for me. So outside in the cold and wind we went and we put up the tripod. We only took a couple of pictures and I think we’ll be able to use one of them for our cards. I sure wish I could take a better picture, maybe I should practice or something? I was just glad that we all got together to get have one taken though. I also snapped a couple of the boys and I was happy how they turned out.

The other thing that I wanted to do was to take a picture of  William standing by the Grandparents tree. We have two trees – one is for Daryl’s parents, and the second one is planted for my dad. It’s amazing how fast they grow, but I guess it’s been a few years since they were planted. I don’t know if I take the picture for the tree or if I take the picture to see how much both the tree and William have grown. We always take it in the fall when the leaves are turning. This picture if the first tree that we planted and it was for my Dad.

But the weekend ended too soon and then it was time for both of them to head back again. Kyle was going to visit his girlfriend in Canada for their Thanksgiving when he got back and he needed some sweetcorn. Have you ever tried to find sweetcorn in Iowa in October? But a local grocery store had some and I bought everything that they had. I thought that we could just pick out the best ones for him. He also needed some candy for a get together at a friends house for Thanksgiving and that got also packed. Now William on the other hand was hoping to get some beef jerky. I made four pounds of it before they came home and put it in two bags. Kyle and some friends pretty much ate all of his and because William hid the other bag, he was sitting pretty good yet. He also asked if we had any bacon that he could take back. I wanted to make a lot of it for him and kind of fast, so I put pans into the oven to cook it. He ended up with three pounds of the cooked bacon and I’m not really sure what he’s planning on doing with it. But you know sometimes it’s OK not to know everything. I was glad that they both made it home just fine and now the house seems empty again until next time.
