See if you can tell what’s missing

Take a good look at the picture below. Can you tell what’s missing?

I'm thinking that they must send the little calf - Stormy under the fence to get my flowers

If you are going to say that there is nothing there but an empty hole. Yup! There was a flower there the day before. I thought that I had it far enough away, but if you look at the fence you can see that they must have almost crawled under it to grab it and eat it. aaahhh!! So now I started to put rocks by the fence and maybe that’ll keep them out. I guess we’ll see if that works or not. But for now, there are three other new ones planted that I’m sure they are eye spying.

This afternoon I organized the basement shelving where I store our jars that are canned and it looks like we’re sitting good on salsa, but will have to make some spaghetti sauce yet this year. I need to do something with my peppers because they are also fit, so today I started to make pepper jelly.  Everything was really going well and I was really ‘in the zone’. If you like to can, you know what I’m talking about. You are thinking that you got it all together and you just know that this should be one of the best things that you’ve ever canned before. THEN it happened. I just put the jars into the water bath and then on went the lid on it. I stood there for a second and thought to myself that this is really fun and I just love canning. When the loudest noise that I’ve ever heard in our house happened. I thought, crap! I bet all my can’s must have just exploded at once. I’ve never heard of this before, but there wasn’t any other reason where this noise would have come from. So I slowwwllly lifted up the lid on the kettle and all the jars were still whole. I couldn’t figure out what was going on, and then I went into the laundry room and found that a board that we put up 5 years ago fell off the wall and square onto the floor. The board is one that we had before remodeled with the kids’ height on it and I guess we didn’t nail it up too good or something. Not sure why is fell today, but I’m glad that it didn’t fall when I’m watching a scary movie by myself one night. That would be bad. That would definitely involve a change of clothing … if you know what I mean.

Where the board fell in the laundry room. Scared me to death!

I can’t explain how loud it was, but when Daryl came home I made the board fall onto the floor again and he thought it sounded like a shot gun went off. But I was glad that it wasn’t my jars, and once the 10 minutes were up in the water bath, all my jars sealed with no problem. I’m hoping to make a couple of more batches of this jelly yet this week with the peppers that I have. And hopefully this is the only board that we didn’t nail up well enough.

your pepper jelly looks so pretty! i know what you mean about being in the ‘zone’. i canned tomato salsa, peach salsa, and tomato jelly this year. also froze a bushel of peppers and some of the tomatoes. got kind of carried away with the tomato jelly…

i would have thought the same thing when that board fell! a friend of mine was canning apples this year and did have a batch of jars break in the canner on her! what a mess that was.
